d16a9 turbo problems/questions
Im running a d16a9 turbo with no missing link/check valve, SAFC at the mo (set to -36 accross the board), I have a pp5 with turboedit basemap going in very soon. The symptoms I am getting is not being able to rev over 4k rpm on the SAFC, is this caused by the fact there is a missing link valve? The engine kind of bogs down. I was under the impression that
SAFC = no missing link/check valve
Socketed ECU = Missing link or check valve is used
I am boosting 6-8PSI, Ive got a walbro 255lph, 450dsm's, Garrett T25 turbo, HF manifold, Wideband o2 sensor.
I really dont feel comfortable driving this thing, even to the tuning shop! As it cuts out a number of times and the smoke enters its way from the engine bay thru the firewall into the cabin!?!?!
Should I basically start the engine with the wideband connected, tune the idle to a stoich setting then work my way throuh the revs slowly till everything smooths it self out? Is that ghetto tuning in a nutshell?
Is there a way I can get the car running with the SAFC then convert the settings into a .bin file? or should I just set the SAFC back to 0/or disconnect it then put the pp5 ECU in its place and start from there?
Your help is much appreciated
Thanks

By the way I have searched but just got a mumbo jumbo of info that led me to the above conclusion, I just need a few things confirmed guys, please help me out
thanks
thanks
So is a socketed PP5 and a turboedit basemap junk? or just the SAFC? I hear of alot of boosted hondas running the chipped ECU's without any problems? Or have things moved on since then.
This project is my learning curve so im not using it as a daily driver or having to rely on it in anyway. I dont mind learning the hard way, ZC/d16a9's are very easy to come by over here.
I have a h22 build in the works which I shall be putting AEM EMS, MOTEC or OMEX management on. The d16 is just a bit of cheap fun, so how can I make this bit of cheap fun last as long as possible with the tools I have? Please see my sig for the parts I have.
Am I just looking for 12.4 on my wideband all throughout the rev range/gears?

Whats the fuelling like as the engine tried to go into boost?
PP5 and turboedit works just fine. ~I tuned a d16a6 in a Rover Coupe and that made 170bhp @5psi. Drove like a 2.5 litre engine.
I imagine the SAFC settinsg are just too rich at 4k causing bogging and the NA ignition map doesnt help things much at all.
Missing linkes are crap and are only used for hacks to stop the ECU seeing BOOST, when you socket it using the std MAP sensor the setup is quite happy to run up to 10psi of boost. It knows the boost from the MAP sensor..... so why block the boost getting to the MAP sensor with the missing link? You only need the Missing link when using the std Honda ECU.
Get that pp5 on and junk the idea of ever using a check valve on a MAP sensor ever again
Also TurboEdit gets a big
from me particulalry map trace code is working.
