Default LS/VTEC ECU question

Ok I'm currently building up an LS/VTEC to drop in my EJ. Just had a few quick questions:
1. I currently have a P30 ECU that was running my JDM B16A. Currently have Apex'i VAFC II but will be burning a ROM and running Chrome (Uberdata style ECU editing). So will I run into any problems running this same ECU (chipped obviously) on my LS/VTEC.

2. Not too important right now but there is a sensor on the back of the LS block that has 2 prongs (just like the oil pressure sending unit has 1 but these 2 are slightly beefier). What is this sensor?

3. I have also heard that some bottom end components from a GSR are recommended to aid in lubricating the crank and rods. Anyone else hear this? If so what parts were you told to bring in from a GSR?

Any other important info you may have regarding the little yet important parts of building an LS/VTEC let me know... Any help is always appreciated. Happy 4th all!

I can try and answer this. I believe the parts people are referring to from the vtec bottom end are the oil squirters. The suck oil up from the bottom end and splash it against the bottom of the pistons to aid in cooling them. They're quite the beyotch to install in a non-vtec bottom end though. The other part that's different between the bottom ends (not cooling related) is the block girdle that vtec's have. It attaches to the end caps and fortifies/strengthens the bottom end, especially at higher RPMs.
Forged pistons would nullify the nead for oil squirters, or maybe tune the car for like 12.5:1 a/f so it runs a little cooler. Less timing. I don't know.

Don't forget to replace those LS rods and rod bolts. They dislike anything above 7000 rpms.

Do you think the stock LS rods would suffice with new bearings and ARP bolts?? I'm already spending good money up top, thought about replacing rods, might as well replace pistons at the same time. I really don't have the funds available right now to completely build the bottom end so I'm hoping to user the stock LS rods. I also will be running an electric water pump to aid in cooling. Low temp thermostat and a teg radiator should be ample for right now.

Will this block girdle install on the LS? Or would I have to then replace the end caps with GSR as well?

the stock ls rods will be fine unless you plan on revving to 9k everytime you drive, its the rod bolts that you need to replace to get to 8k reliablely...

new bearings are a good idea while youre tearing down the block...

if you run an oem piston you can use youre oem rods, but if you get forged rods, you cant use an oem piston w/o machine work...

same goes for pistons, im pretty sure you'll need machine work for forged pistons on oem rods...

and your chipped ecu sounds like it would work fine.. my buddies got a chipped p28 and hes running chrome too...hes getting it tuned soon...runs alright now on the base map too

Yeah the rod bolts are without question, and like you said if the **** is torn apart I might as well replace the bearings. I was going to go with some HP bearings but since I will build the entire bottom end in a year or so some quality OE replacement or semi-HP should be fine. I wouldn't think the LS rods are what causes bottom end weakness, those bolts are the culprit. What do you think about any other bottom end work. ITR/GSR oil pump is a must in my eyes. I kinda figured the chipped P30 would be fine to supply the required fuel etc for the increased displacement.

Ok here is where I'm stuck, I have to replace valvetrain because blowing up my B16 block bent a valve in cylinder number 1. I have heard great things about OMNI power but I see I can get a Crower kit for the same price (valves, tit. retainers and dual springs). I started a poll in the EG forum regarding this. Thanks again guys, your time and efforts are always appreciated..
