I bought this 1998 honda accord coupe a couple of months ago and I still haven't figured out what this little black on/off button on the dash does... Can someone help me figure this out? Here is the pic



See the black **** on the left of the dash? It wires to somewhere under the hood... I've tested it on lights... Toggled it while I was driving..... didn't notice anything

 

the one you spin? the dimmer for the cluster lights?

or do you mean that black thing hanging up on the top? that shouldn't be there.

 

it is for aftermarket fog lights. unless you have some neons hidden somewhere.

 

Looks to be an Aftermarket add-on. Honda isn't prone to sticking things on the dash cover and leaving the wires exposed.
You'll either have to chase down what it's connected to or contact the original owner and throw a WTF his way...

Yeah i spoke to the previous owner's dad and he didnt know wtf it was either, i never got a hold of the actual owner though.. His dad was like his representative

 

That looks like a typical aftermarket on/off toggle switch. Are there any cutouts in the bumper that may indicate there ever was foglights? I would start by pulling the wire and finding where it leads.

 

Yup! For the fog/driving lights. Mine has the same exact button.

 

so, when i toggle it and nothing happens, i'm assuming my fog lights are burnt out?

Do you even have the foglights still? He may have removed them when he sold you the car...

 

yeah, i figured it out...

my fog light fuse was blown, so thats why i didn't see anything when i toggled, i replaced it with the spare in the Accord fuse box, works now... ty all
