plus my ls motor is having a problem i have all 4 cylinders flooded with oil it wont start because you cant make a spark in a bunch of oil. valve cover gasket and spark plug housing gaskets are all fine so is the head gasket

Vtech owns you nah just playin. If you get it for cheap why not. Just get those cams and pretty soon you'll be thirsty for more power, then you'll go turbo...or go broke.

depends on how much of a gain you want, i just got a b20 bottom end and the results are not insane or anything, but i feel the difference, i think it was worth it, espically for plans down the road.

You installed new tube grommets? You cant tell by looking at them sometimes, but will leak because they are old or brittle from the constant heat. The only other thing I can think of is that you have excess crankcase pressure pushing the oil past the seals. Hows your PCV system working?

i just dropped a b20 into my LS. motor pulls better than LS but not really worth the price if nothing is wrong with your LS. Smog is a bitch by the way.

for the money you spend on the block.. use ur ls block and buy a b16 head.. youll get the same gains in tQ but gain hp rather then loosing it... i mean this is if you stick to your statement that your not considering turbo..

I'd go with a vtec head over the block swap... can be just as reliable if done right.. and makes alot more of a difference in power that you'll notice for sure

P8R head for sure if you're going to use a LS-style head...far better. B20 is fine and all, but the sleeves suck (http://www.nonvtec.com/dave_hickman/interview_005.html).

The LS head is not the same as the B20...primarily in combustion chamber volume (b20 has larger bore). Also, the cams and IM are different on the B20.

Reason I'd shy from the B20 swap is that it's a lot of money for very little benefit. For the same price (unless the b20 block is basically given to you), you could have whatever bore you really wanted (2.0-2.1L) on a sleeved block which would hold more boost or revs/compression in the case of na power.

If you just want to do something conservative, no problems with the b20 block.

Def. use at least 403 cams though.... 402 is weak sauce. There's a good thread about 403s/404s here: http://www.nonvtec.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=370\

Lots of b20/b18 stuff in the forum there too.

Nathan

Some B20 blocks cannot hold much power. You would need to resleeve with some aftermarkets if you wanna go for more power over stock or if you're a street ricer.

Theres a guy I know in my neighborhood with b20vtec turbo with stock sleeves pushing 10psi. daily driver. Dont listen to anyone on here. Ya if u plan on putting out massive power by building a track car, of course ur gonna need aftermarket sleeves. But daily driver, simple turbo set up and even a semi built head, ur fine.

Another example for b20v. Me and some friends got a low mile b20 block, completely stock and put a built b16 head on it because our homies b16 bottom end siezed up. Its still running strong 6 years later and LOTS of miles from commuting. And he beats that engine monthly at races.

B20s are great engines, and for the price being Cheaper than an LS, and a much better torque powerband, you cant beat that at all. Youll have alot of fun.

You'll definitely feel the torque difference. But if you ever decide to boost get a B18b1 or even a1 block, because B20 has weak cylinder walls.

O yeah, the sleeves are so thin so they thought they should make a sucessful thread called "post your boosted b20" and 90% of the people dont even have sleeves making great numbers. b20 boost might be the setup im going with.

but the fact is, b20s are a hit and miss in stock form. sence the cars are only used for a little bit like 30000 miles they just rather not do an oil change or maintain them for that matter (most people). i have bought 2 b20s from reputable import shops and have tore them down...nasty nasty stuff in there, piston blacker than ish, and oil as thick as....umm..idk thick oil ha. But the nicer the engine the more it was taken care of, hopfully.

But to reply to your question, there cool, do it. i got mine 500 no reciept. then after you sell the distributor for 100$ there only 400.

Rebuilt B18B bottom end with arp rod bolts and ITR pistons+VTEC head+B16 tranny= Voila! More power but also more money.

A B20 longblock is around $500+ from a reputable shop. Cheaper than B18B's.

B20+402+ LS Tranny= $900? Add in VT if required. Simple with some power.
