Default D16z6 falls flat at WOT. Dont know what to check

I installed a d16z6 in my 91 DX hatch. I am running OBD-1 with a P28 ECU. I had to use a d16y8 TB because my TPS was damaged.

When i am driving at part throttle the car drives fine and I can reach the stock redline w/o problems but as soon as I step on the gas (WOT) the car falls on its face sorta like it hit the rev limiter. I am only throwing code 41.

Is the y8 TPS calibrated differently than the y6 (p28) one?

Check your TPS with a volt meter before you go replacing it, you should see 0.45V closed and i think above 3.5V WOT.

with a code 41, o2 heater code... the ecu isnt using the o2 sensor correctly... when you step on the gas the car is still dumping gas according to a pre determined fuel map, therefore it's running very very lean, (not enough gas) when you are at WOT and it should bog down a little. when you fixed the code 41 o2 heater it will fix the problem because the car will know how much fuel/air is in the exhaust and adjust it accordingly

just my opinion

good luck

At WOT the ECU is in open loop and doesn't use the O2 sensor, it shouldn't cause the issue hes describing.

yeah but without an o2 sensor, the car will not get to open loop as quickly as it would if it were working properly, the car has no idea how it is running...

fix the o2 heater code

The ECU has an entire table to run off of, and only makes small corrections with the O2 when cruising, you shouldn't see a huge difference in driveability.
