alot of times all it is going to be is the speedo cable they get stretched out and snap after a while, just take it off and twist one end and hold the other with your hand.. if both sides dont turn when you twist one side its broken.

there is lube for the cable but more doesn't prevent it from working. its either the speedo, cable or vss. those are the only components.

The most likely cause that most people make the mistake of is installing the cable into the vss....make sure the cable is actually in the notch and clip is on correctly.

in response to what egtwincam said, YES it is a very good thing to make sure your speedo cable is actually in the notch. I don't mean to repeat what he just said, but i had an experience where my cluster didn't work for about 2 weeks (no speedo, no vtec, no odometer either), and I finally took it out, and pushed it in there (all the way that time), and it worked. most likely vibrated out on the way down to FL.

you need to reset your ecu to do that disconnect the neg battery cable or just pull the ecu fuse.

Have you fed the vss signal to the correct pin in the ECU? If you have vtec, then the ecu should be getting vss signal, BUT just in case!

i found my problem.. it was in the guage cluster.. half the wires in that connector were cut off! the other 2 or 3 that were plugged in were taped together w/ masking tape i plugged in the wires the best i could.. hopefully this will fix the problem.. if not i'm gonna go 2 a junkyard and steal a clip off of another civic w/ all the wires
