Default automatic transmission adjustments?

some of you might know that i just bought this 91 crx dx auto. it has a sohc vtec in it running with a pm6.
THIS THING SUCKS TO DRIVE!!! lol

i know autos are bad but this one seems rediculous, it doesn't down shift when it should at all i don't think and it lurches like a ****. i am going to be swapping it out to manual very soon but i was just wondering if there was away to make some adjustments to help me out in the mean time?

also, if you start the car in park the shifter won't move out of park, you have to shut it off and stick the key in the release and start it in neutral. i am guessin this has to do with the fact that i am not using a auto ecu? in anycase thats annoying as well

the fact you're not using an auto ecu just hurts your highway milege, it doesn't send the signal to lock up the torque converter.

the park problem is with this pin in the shifter that tends to break.

if you wanted to spend 20 bucks, changing the fluid and filter is the only thing i can think of to do to help stop the lurching.

Auto and vtec on a pm6... Two things that ecu wasnt meant to do. Changing the fluid will only do so much. I got rid of my auto cause it slipped like crazy. If you want to put a manual in look at http://www.4gcivic.net for my guide.

sounds like your lock-up control solenoid is stuck, making a physical conneciton btwn your engine and transmission (think of not having a clutch). that's why it's lurching. you should get an auto ECU, even if only temporarily. it will probably take care of the lock-up solenoid (lurching), the shifting, and the shift-lock.

if it's still lurching after putting in an auto ecu, the lock-up solenoid may be shot. you can try tapping it with a hammer, to see if it's stuck. you could attach 12v to it. if it clicks, it's good, if not it's bad.

if it's still not shifting properly after putting in an auto ecu, you can try adjusting the kickdown cable at the TB end.

if the shifter is still locking up after the auto ecu, check your brake lights and fuses. replace any that are blown. could be the switch at the brake pedal, as well. also, you don't have to shut it off and put the key in the slot, just keep a spare key handy. you can do it with the engine running.
