Default Damn ITR thieves are in Japan NOW!

I just recently joined another forum in Japan for DC2 and DC5 owners. Its basically like here. where we discuss parts, racing, impressions, etc.

Well, I was surprised to learn that the DC2 Type R is now the 5th most stolen car in Japan. Once guy had his R stolen, and guess what? They found it a month later in pieces on in shipping container bound for N. America! I was like WTF!!! Fuggin American thieves as stealing our cars now! They said that there is a huge auto theft ring in N. America who have decided to expand their operations overseas, and many R's are disappearing because of it.

Another guy who had just bought a DC5 Type R got his car stolen on the same day he took his car home from the dealership. He thinks it's an inside job and someone at the dealership had tipped off some thieves.

I am so paranoid now. All these years I had been coming here and reading about people's R's being stolen and thinking that it would never happen to me. Now its truly becoming a reality that my car may be stolen someday. Luckily, my car is pretty hidden from site, but if someone really wanted one, I guess it wouldn't be too hard to follow me home one day and take it. I was followed home once by a car driving another CW ITR about a year ago. He passed by my driveway which is really hidden, (so it made me really wonder what he was up to), but then he drove away. I think it was just a curious owner wondering if my car was really turbocharged

So, if you find a JDM or even a USDM Type R on ebay or anywhere else for sale really cheap, please questiion the seller thoroughly about where he got it. Especially a JDM R. Those aren't too easy to ship from here, so I would beware as to the way the got a hold of one. Just my vent and my 2 yen...thanks

you know, to be quite honest. I always questioned all these "importers" and them bringing all these supposed "wrecked" or "salvaged" itr front clips and cars.

It just didnt make sense, I do understand about taxes being raised on the cars...but seeing MINT cut front rsx (dc5-R) clips and and DC2 stuff.

The two and two just dont add up, at least from the "common" sense side of things..

yeah, Now I am finding myself sticking my head out the window everyday to see if my car is still in my driveway. I use to leave my doors unlocked sometimes and didn't worry a bit about my car even being broken into. Those days are over. Now I am in a market for a good car alarm that really blares! I never thougght I would have to buy one, but now it seems I have to now. Another $300-$500 that could have gone somewhere else!!

$300.00 to $500.00 will get you a base model alarm at best. Mine isn't even top of the line and it was a grand. It's not thief proof which I know, but it will buy me enough time to grab a bat or something and run outside.

it's different in japan. Not everyone is baller enough to afford a garage. Space is very limited, especially in the cities.

Here was my "garage" in Osaka.

Here in ireland JDM imports are a huge business because of our easy registration laws and were also drive on the left...one thing i noticed about 99% of JDM cars coming into the country is that they never have alarms or immobilisers...not even the higher end cars like GTR skylines, supra TT's, EVO's STi's, S15's etc
Is car security not a high priority in japan for any car???

Some of the newer really expesive cars are starting to come with alarms standard. Everything else comes with keyless entry now, but thats about it. Nobody thinks too serious abou their cars getting stolen, because it usually doesn't happen. My neighbor had his car broken to last month and his car is parked right next to mine. They stole his CDs but that's about it, so it was no real big deal.

what do you expect, its "big" business. what do you think that all of the importers are actually doing it cuz they like to? but i highly doubt that they are stealing them like you think, they are prolly tying it up in regultions or paper work like they do everthing else, so you have to jump through hoops to keep your car in japan. and since most wont, they basically get you for your car.

Now the Japanese really have to think about garage doors since it is not a common to have one.
Most houses just have tiny driveway on the side with minor covering. I still can't understand what a rip off in trying to sell Clifford alarm for almost $2,000 install with GMS phone.

you can get one of the higher end viper alarms like the 791xv for less than $250.

alarms are only one small part of keeping your car safe from thieves
