ok, doing a head gasket change and noticed quite a bit of carbon build-up on my pistons. I scrubbed them down but, I was wondering if anybody had a good way to clean the carbon off the pistons and get the carbon out of the cylinder. I'm kinda stuck and the carbon seems pretty abrasive. I don't wanna scar my cylinder walls. And I won't be taking the pistons out of the engine so plz don't mention (had a horrible time w/ the crank bolt and still can't get it off). Help me plz.

 

you don't need to remove the crank pulley if you're just removing the head anyways.

Best thing to do is after the engine is up and running...remove the plugs, drop in about an ounce or 2 of sea foam, let it sit for a couple hours, then fire it up. After doing so, my compression is now 240 across all 4, and burns no oil- used to burn quit a bit, and with the detergents, it cleans soft carbon and hard carbon build up
