Default No honk with keyless entry system on 99 Civic EX Coupe

Is it possible to set up the keyless entry system on a 1999 Civic so that the car doesn't honk when you unlock/lock the doors, the way you can with '98 Civics? The remote for my '99 Civic EX Coupe only has the Lock/Unlock/Panic buttons, and in particular lacks the Option button that turns off the accompanying honk on earlier models. I have been searching around hard for an answer to this, to no avail. I suspect it is impossible, but being a tinkerer I'm not willing to give up quite yet.

Thanks!

i have a 00 civic. and for the 3 days after it came off the showfloor til i got a alarm it didnt honk. the only time it honked was when you hit the lock button twice in a row. and that is to tell you it's locked.

My 98 Civic doesn't honk when you lock or unlock it. Can that be changed?

So the only way to stop the honks is to disconnect the alarm? Has anyone ever pulled just the horn's cable from the alarm? Of course, that would amount to the same thing .... Nevertheless, could that person please point to the exact wire to pull?

Thanks for the responses.

Jicek: This is probably a stupid question, but did you have keyless entry before you got an alarm? Because frankly I'm eventually going to get an aftermarket alarm system anyway and could care less if I dump the factory alarm to get some peace and quiet while using my remote.

I wish it were that simple. Thing is, it honks twice if I push it (once) to unlock it, and it honks if I push it (once) to lock it. In other words, it makes noise everytime I press a button. Judging from the comments above, this sounds like atypical behavior.

Who cares if it hionks or not. its not like it is doing any damage. just unplug youir horn if it bugs you that much. oh yea when you get a alarm its going to make noise.

I leave my apartment complex for work at 5 am, and the squawk kinda shatters the morning stillness, you know? I'm trying to be nice here, not selfish.

The ideal solution would be to maintain normal/alarm honking while eliminating the lock/unlock chirps. I realize aftermarket alarms are going to make noise, but I also know that you can configure them so that they are silent on keyless entries, or flash the lights, or beep, or any combination thereof. I was just checking to see if someone else hasn't already done the heavy lifting. I'm getting the feeling that there is no solution to my problem, as I originally suspected.

Thanks for all the help and comments. If there's someone out there who has even a partial solution, here's a bump!

Yeah... I'm with my best friend's cousin... And I have to sneak to and from her house in the middle of the night sometimes just to see her... The honk is annoying lol.
