Yes I know this is’t a turbo related topic… but we have to stop our turbo cars some how.. minus the air brakes.
Currently im running hard pads, (on my NA b16a2) and my stoping distance is good, but not great, as many of you might know my turbo setup is on its way over to Australia, half the bits from ben and half from revmax.
Anyway out here its law that I need to have increased brakes if I increase the speed of the care by more than 15%. So I was looking at the AEM big brake kit, they look nice, but after doing some reading I found a few negative comments, anyone had experience with them.
Out here I got quoted for a set of AP Callipers + new pads discs brakes lines for almost double the AEM price.
Apparently the increase in cost is due to the high quality of AP callipers.( and the fact there ultra light, thus not adding extra weight to my car, which is a CRX / Del Sol 94 with ABS) They have features like external dust collecting wholes, (helps your brakes not catch on fire from the dust ) or some crazy thing like that… ) I know **** all about brakes slowly learning thow, but am very interested to see what you guys do for big brake solutions, ie changing callipers and installing new discs / pads.
And does anyone have any tech info on the AEM big break product and or photo’s of the callipers up close.
Regards James

well most people comment on the big brakes that are the ROTORS only. changing just your rotors wont reduce your stopping distance a lot, but the calipers will. The Aem BIG BRAKE 4 pot kit is GREAT. the Caliper is actually made by brembo (the word brembo is bevelled up on the back of the caliper), and I'm pretty sure the rest of the kit is brembo stuff as well. all the AEM insignia on the kit is just white stickers...
my first impression of driving my car with this kit on ...... "HOLY $HIT" ......let me tell you a story. my friend has a z28 slightly modified yadda yadda. i was giving him a ride in my car with the turbo & the big brakes. we were approaching a stop sign at like 75 mph and hes like DUDE WHAT THE f#$!*, THERES A STOP SIGN. STOP DUDE STOP !!.....i waited til nearly the last second and stepped on the brakes. I was probably like 150 feet before the stop sign going 75mph and i stopped right before it. needless to say he was really impressed .
here's a pic

btw i think i'm going to sell my kit. it only has 400 miles on it
i am rebuilding my motor and i'm sacrificing what i can to get money. if you are interested i'll give you a good price shipped to your house. they've only been on for 400 miles, so they have brand new pads and everything. i really dont want to sell but i dont have much choice :/ i'll probably purchase some again in the future.
lemme know if you are interested. immy@attbi.com or on aim MR FUMETSU

I thought about getting larger brakes for my hatch. My stock are the 9.X" and I was going to use the Fastbrakes 11" upgrade since I have GSR calipers sitting in the garage. Now I am thinking about it------screw that. I wanna get 13" drag wheels and slicks for when I drag at the track!!

Very intresting.. good to see AEM might be quaity afterall... i was getting scared.. going to pay double the price out here...
does anyone know how much the AEM calipers weight ??

ill take some pics of my Fastbrakes big brake kit w/ the 4 piston Wilwood dynalite calipers.. you can check out the kit at http://www.fastbrakes.com. very nice piece and it wont break the bank like the AEM will.
I think Im going to go the cheep rought to get bigger brakes. Im just going to buy the V6 Accord rotors (same spec as ITR) modified by FASTBRAKES, I'll also have them CladCoated and sloted. Then get the accord V6 calipers (same spec as ITR) for the front. For the back I'll use the FASTBRAKES 11.4" clad coated and sloted rotors. I'll also upgrade to SS brake lines. It probably won't be as good as the AEM kit, but it will be a great upgrade from stock! It will aslo cost less than $600 for the whole setup.

93LSivic- GSR calipers, what model car you have, the GSR calipers only fit on 92-95 civic EX w/ABS. If it don't fit, you have to get GSR knuckle or 92-95 civic EX w/ABS Knuckles, damn thing cost $200 a side. But then 92-95 civic EX WO/ABS sometimes fit too. I know for sure DX, CX, LX won't fit the GSR caliper, I have tried it.
I know this already. I would need knuckles from any civic of integra that runs the larger 10.X brakes. Or like i said the fastbrakes upgrade for my civic that will run the 11" VW Corrado rotors and their spacers for the calipers.
I will probably end up selling them and just run a HAWK pad and some ss lines.
Anyone want to buy some GSR calipers and rotors??

http://www.diabloautosports.com/adva...m+four+integra We installed Kurt's (Immortal) AEM brake kit. They are a beautiful site
I can attest to the low mileage on his brake kit if anyone is interested in his kit. If not we have them new as seen in the link above....

this is the fastbrakes willwood kit. sorry the rotors are "kinda" rusty..i bought mine used.. heres a pic installed with 99GSR rims on
you have to use 15" or bigger rims on this kit.
I'd say get good street/strip pads, good fluid and stainless lines first. Eliminate fade, that is the biggest problem with stock brakes. If you need to stop faster than that will allow, you are going to be paying large sums for marginal differences.
you can get them from fastbrakes for about 600 bucks...or prolly more. like i said i got mine used for 300 plus trade for my stock ones!
Pagong- How long do you have the wilwood calipers? I heard they need to be rebuilt often because they don't have any dust boot!? Also whats your impression on the kit? thanks.
the guy i bought it from had it on for about 6 months and it he decided to sell parts off of his car, so his car sat for another 2 months after. Ive had it for only a couple weeks and my first impressions were..."Holy Smokes batman"...i mean this thing really stops the car..not that i recommend doing a 60-0 run on public road... but, one thing for sure is that it is a big step up from my stockies.
about the rebuilt part...not really sure, you maybe right! but, for the price i got it for why not
