Will a non-vtec 97 Civic distributor work properly on a Vtec 98 Civic EX?

Will a non-vtec 97 Civic distributor work properly on a Vtec 98 Civic EX?

Heres the deal. I have been putting together a 98 Civic EX vtec (theft recovery) and the distributor was stolen. I had a 97 non-vtec distributor from a 97 LX. I put it on and the engine fired right up and the car has been driven regularly since. Could it be possible that the car is not running to its full potential because the distributor is different in some way? It physically fits perfect. Here is a picture of the car in question

I've seen some people running mini-me's and using non vtec distributers. Try searching under mini me

96-00 DX, LX, EX distributors are all the same

it just confused me because when i search for civic distributor all the companies seperate them between 96-98 non vtec, 96-98 vtex, 99-00 vtec, 99-00 non vtec

whats mini-me stand for?
