rear quarter panel replacment
while my car was sitting out in front of my house the neighbor across the street decided to back his jaguar into the drivers side rear quarter panel... i dont have any pics but the insurance guy said that the whole panel will have to be replaced and painted to match since there are two spots already rusted out pretty bad... has anyone had to replace their quarter panel? just wondering what i could get out of it... im not planning on using the money for the car as the damage is not that bad and i can most likely pop it out myself if i wanted to... i want money for speed not looks... thats why im planning on using the money on the engine... thanks

yeah, i remember hearing that one side rear quarter panel for a good cut and weld would be around 2k per side, which is about the worth of the car. try to get slightly less than the car's worth out of it, without them totaling it.
so if the panel replacment is gonna cost more than my car altogether then they will just total my car? dont they take your car if that happens? thats definatly not something that i want to happen... do all insurance companies make the check out to the person whose car got hit or do some of them make it out to the body shop? when my girlfriends car got hit she is the one who got the check but my grandparents are saying that some companies make the check out to the body shop... that would suck considering that i can just pop the dent out myself and use the check on some go fast goodies
... thanks a lot for the info guys

I work at a body shop so I'll try to give some advice.
First of all if it's not totaled the insurance company may tell you have to take it to a certain shop. YOU CAN TAKE IT ANYWHERE YOU CHOOSE. When you bring your car in for repair the shop may ask you to sign a consent form allowing the check to be sent directlly to them. You don't have to do that either. Just bring the check in when the repairs are complete if you wish.
Just a guestimate but it sounds totalled. Best bet is to find someone who will do it on the side for cash.

The check always goes to you. If it's totalled, yes they take the car but you only need to pay back like 10-15% of the car's "value" to get it back. But then you have a salvage title.
It's probably totaled.
