Default Custom 2.5 piping with ES Muffler too loud

I bought a VERY loud car...well, too loud for my taste anyway.

My custom piping is 2.5inches from the catback to the muffler without a resonator.

It is just too loud from low RPMs to high RPMs. Also has an annoying droning...

My question is; would I be able to have a muffler shop weld a resonator in place?

What's a good size resonator do you prefer?

A muffler shop will charge you about $30 to weld in the resonator. I have a 22" and love it.

They should be able to. Most I've seen on cat-backs for Hondas are the 22-24in range.

Would they be able to weld on a RESONATOR from a 96 LS Integra to my 2.5 piping?

How would they do that--because the outlet sizes are different (stock vs. 2.5")?

Get a resonator that is in equal diameter to your existing piping diameter.

yes it will lower hp, but you have to compromise if you want it to sound good... flow= loud

The only way you'd be able to tell would be on the dyno.

yes, you're right. i guess im pretty much going by what i've read. pretty much anything that reduces noise is going to reduce flow which is in turn going to have some effect on h.p. as to how much effect, i have no idea.

I personally wouldnt want to run without a cat and resonator.. I just dont like being the center of attention any time I drive down any road at any speed in any gear..

Do you guys think getting my piping re-done to about 2 inches will reduce the sound/noise?

Change out the muffler for a quieter one.

if you get a perforated resonator over a louvered one you wouldn't lose that much flow and still quiet the exhaust tone some with it.

you could do a new muffler with a silencer. you should be able to be a little quiter with out loosing anything if you want to go to the track

So I should ask for a 2.5inch perforated resonator to be welded on?

I like the ES Oval!

So, between getting new piping and getting a resonator welded on, which one is the best solution to quieting sound? I don't want to lose the Oval.

Well I solved my problem boys.

I had a muffler shop weld a 26" louvered resonator onto place and the car sounds awesome now. No more droning!

a louvered core restrics flow more over the preforated one... but i'm glad you're happy

yeah, I was told the louvered resonator will choke the 2.5 piping a bit so by that I am gaining backpressure.
