the car is doing totally opposite of what it would do if it was the t-stat, it started a few weeks, ago running hot while hway driving . no boost just a steady 80 mph cruise. so i replaced the stock rad with a fluidyne . still doing the same . there is no air in the system.
now heres the funny part. when it starts to run hot on the highway if i get into traffic or get on the city streets the car cools down . its got me puzzled any ideas will be app.

 

do you have a thermostat in there or did you remove it?

 

its sitll in there i was thinking about taking it out and seeing how it acted . but just wanted some opinions first

 

I had the same problem you have now a few weeks ago. I was stumped for a few day's trying to figure it out. I dont know if you have the same problem i had but i will throw this out anyway. I had a problem with my temp switch in the t-stat housing. Yes the fan was comming on BUT it was comming on to late and my little slim fan could not keep up and bring the temp down. I asume that the friction the motor was making at those hwy speeds caused the temp to rise fast. after the new switch the fan comes on when it should and stops the temp from rising before its to late. just a thought. chris.

 

the intercooler blocking air to the radiator? at that speed the fan shouldnt matter ...it might if your radiator isnt seeing any air since the intercooler likes to keep it for himself

you got that right. my intercooler is blocking my radiator from air. thats how i new that the fan comming on when it should was the only way to pull some air threw it.

 

the thermo switch is what you are talking about i was wondering if that could be the culprit . i think i might pick up the mugen switch and t-stat and see if that solves it.

how about you pull the plu off the fan switch jump the terminals so its on all the time and save some money

it happened to me also..My problem was that i had the fan blowing the wrong way and it overheated. ( had air blowing out from the engine compartment to the radiator, its a no-no) Reversed the wires and no more overheating.

 

It cools down..But it may start to rise if you sit for too long. The reason why it heats up when your on the highway at one RPM is because at that rpm and load the vehicle is tuned at may be a little leaner than what the actual AFR is at idle. I would get a EGT gauge if you dont already have one. That would tell you if its running hotter and or leaner or not. Get some Royal Purple "Purple ICE" for your radiator and also a cooler thermostat. Your local auto parts store should have a 160 degree thermostat for around $12.00
