New Camera Mount for the ITR
I had been looking for a good Camera mount for a good while now and about a month ago I ended up buying one (yes I know it is really easy and cheap to make your own but I'm lazy so sue me). I ended up getting the autech aluminum headrest camera mount. After testing it out and being dissapointed about the view and with the lack of a pivoting head to move the camera I was stuck. Yesterday I found the perfect solution at wolf Camera a higher view and the ability to adjust angles hopefully the pics will do the explaining
When I first got itattached to the headrest

Bad view of the road and guages

New mod to my camera mount

Much better view
I'm way happier with the results I was afraid that the new videos would be shaky under hard driving but nope great view and great footage can't wait to test it out at the We-Todd-Exblow

Same here, you'd get a better view on passenger side.

I don't know about the view, but I'd rather not have a chunk of steel in the back of my neck.

Incase of an accident you don't want a free object like a camera next to your head. and use a nylon strap to hold it down in case the threaded base breaks of the camera.

When I get a chance I'll post up some sample footage from both the drivers and passangers side to see which one you guys think is better

It was on the passenger headrest and it took better video than the io-port on my J's C-pillar bar I used @ Expo 5.</TD></TR></TABLE>
I still prefer the mount on C-pillar bar.. you can get a view on ur gauge with the C-pillar or rear seat location, but headrest location cant

It's not an issue of the better view from the camera, It's the point that the camera mounted to close to you could injure you during a crash.

Yeah, but you might feel it a little more than you'd want to in the event of an impact with something solid

Something about mounting the camera this way at all just makes me a little nervous. I wouldnt mount one to anything less than a rollbar, its the same kind of nervous feeling I have when I see people just slide their front liscense plate inbetween the dash and windsheild.

Please make sure you check your high performance club's CCR or safety rules for camera mounts.
There are organisations that do not allow headrest mounts. We turned down a few requests at Expo 3, for example.

Wow that sucks (for me) cause thats the reason I got it
So does anyone know of any camera mounts that I can attach to my car that would be okay for the next expo other then roll cage mounts.

Besides just what George mentioned which is extremely important, it's probably even more dangerous on the open road where the potential for collision is even higher And you won't be wearing a helmet.
As per "other" camera mounts, I've seen them on "C" pillar bars before. And be sure to use a acceptable strap as a secondary protection as already mentioned.
Mine is on my rollbar and as far from me as possible. I'd hate to have 3#'s of camera whack me in the head.

I had a similar set up. The pic looked fine for "hard driving" but for higher speed at track events, they were shaky. I then installed a better set up but eventually took it out due to safety reason.

It's hard to tell until you know who's organising the next Expo.
I wrote the rules for Expo 3, and they have evidently continued to carry them over, and I did transfer ownership of the rules so that they could do that. How they modify the rules after I'm gone is their business, therefore.
I do not personally like headrest mounted camera mounts for several reasons, not the least of which is the fact you are modifying stock safety equipment without any information about how it affects the well tested safety equipment.
How the weight of the camera and mount affects the headrest in an emergency is an unknown, untested quantity. There is, on the other hand, a body of SCCA and NASA evidence that would seem to indicate that headrest mounted cameras are a bad idea.
My comments set no precedent, however, since the Expo rule set is up to the next set of organisers.
