Default V-tec head on a D16a6?

I have a D16a6 in my 91 CRX. I was wondering if anyone has ever put a SOHC V-tec head on a D16?

Well, i asked this guy who owns a local shop that mainly specialices on hondas. He said he would install a v tec head with timing belt and everything for $450. So I want to know what the results are and if its worth doing.

Yes I have done this. Buy a D16Y8 head(which you can find with like 100k miles for like 20 bucks) Just make sure no valves are bent and you have the vtec solenoid. You will also need the y8 cam gear and timing belt and a new head gasket. You will also need to buy a vtec controller since crxs dont come with them and add a wire for vtec. Finally just put it in an make sure its all good and most importantly get the timing right. Set the vtec for like 3500 rpms and listen to it scream. For overall best results, also buy a Y8 or even Z6 intake manifold and new gasket. Overall should only run you about 300 bones unless you haveto pay someone to do the work. Good luck.

as they said its called a mini me. you can also convert to OBD 1 so you can use the p28 ecu to control vtec and fuel maps the right way. and as hook up stated set it at 3500 is not correct. vtec works with oil preassure and if you engage it so early then its pointless to even have it due to the lack of oil preassure. might even cause you to lose power.

instead of getting a vtec controller you can get a MSD rpm ignition box this will turn VTEC on and off based on the rpms. this isnt the best way to do it because your fuel curves will not be correct and these can be changed with a vafc. a vafc is worth the money and they look sweet in your car.

What? Why would you set VTEC to 3500 anyways? If the redline is at say, 7000 anyways, why would having a higher VTEC crossover hurt durability??

Rexified is correct. Set it to at least 4800.
