just installed my bc3+ cams in my jdm b18cr swap. i'm scheduled to dyno in a month, so currently they're at 0,0. i heard these cams are supposed to be drop in and go, so they shouldn't require too much tuning. they feel really strong when the engine is not fully warm, but once the car is hot, they feel weak, like the engine is strangled. do the bc's really suck when they're untuned? i had spoon cams before, those felt great even when they were still untuned

i'm using maxim works (same as jun) 4-2-1 headers. just can't understand why they perform better when the engine isn't hot yet. yeah i'm using itr valvetrain
at least with mine, they didnt do that good drop in and go. Only after some street tuning did they start to pull nice. Also, with those cams at 0,0, they midrange isnt really there. Once you start advancing the intake and retarding the exhaust, the midrange should wake up, and youll be happy

Where did you get the idea they wouldn't need tuning? I don't think that's a good idea at all.
It's probably safe to move the car around at 0,0 and no tuning, but I certainly wouldn't engage in any kind of enthusiastic driving at alll.
What other modifications have you made? Fuel pressure? Injectors? What computer are you using, and what kind of fuel map and spark advance is currently installed?
It's possible the car is leaning out dangerously in some situations, so please consider not doing any enthusiastic driving until the car is tuned.

This is true, when we first dropped them in and datalogged, we have to add a good amount of fuel to the entire powerband. This was with uberdata btw
It sounds like you are trying to cheap your way around this...
Do not slack on anything unless you like dropping thousands of dollars on rebuilt motors.
And get a good EMS... and put back in the stock cams till you can afford to do the job right the first time...
ask me how I know

is the ITR valvetrain enough to handle the BC IIIs? i'd always thought that they were quite aggressive. the last thing u would want is valve float, among other problems...excited to see the difference once they're tuned though.
good luck with it
good luck with it
Mine felt really flat when ran untuned on the stock ECU. Once tuned with Hondata and the cam gears the car really came to life. Most of the power was found from advancing the timing and adjusting the cam gears. Fuekl was also added everywhere, and with stock fuel injectors and FPR I ran out of injector at 6200rpm. Good luck.
actually you should really use what the manufacturer suggests... really there is no judgement call necessary.
I personally would rather be safe than sorry.

I also just installed a set of these cams. Everyone says to advance the intake cam to +2 and leave the exhaust at 0? I really havent felt any power on these either. I need to get a wideband to see whats up with the air/fuel.
I just sold a set of skunk2 stage 1 cams and bought a set of BCIII+'s. Now I noticed a big difference in the Mid range after the Install. I will be getting tuned later this week. Im so ready to see how this cams preform.
i'm playing with the idea at the moment, spec III or spec IV?? spec IV needs quite a bit of work, how big an increase are specIII over ITR cams, i'd like your opinion on everyday use, thanks
ya stock ITR valve trains will do just fine. even stock GSR valve trains are fine.
and setting on 0 does not do any good. just set them to right number. dont need to tune fuel or anything. from what i know.
