Alternator installation?
I never had to take out the axle taking out an alternator.
Theres a tensioner bolt, loosen that then move the alternator to take the belt off.
Take the belt off.
Take the tensioner bolt off the alternator and disconnect the alternator from the bracket.
Next take off the whole tensioner (connected to the block).
Take off the other bolt holding the alternator.
take off all the electrical connectors.
pull out alternator.
It takes a couple tries because its in there pretty good but work with it and youll get it.

Luserkid has it.
Short of disconnect any wires attatched to it (disconnect battery first), remove any bolts holding it in place and then remove any additional hardware (like the axle if need be), there isn't much to it.
You should buy a Helms manual if in doubt.

damn, thats sad if you got to actually drop the axle.

Only way other than dropping the axle is to pull your brake master cyclinder and booster, or you can pull your intake manifold out. It is way easier to just drop the axle. When I replaced my alternator a month ago people told me you could pull it from the top. I can tell you that it is absolutely impossible without pulling a **** load of stuff out.
Dropping the axle is easy. First time should take you about 15 minutes, once you have the shock out.

how did you remove the alternator, fom the top or the bottom? if from the top, I think it has to do with the extra room the y7 intakes give you over the y8.
would like to know as I want to change mine soon.

Thank you guys for all the help... now i have to read about taking off the intake manifold or dropping the axle. I don't really know anything about working on cars, but I have friends that can help me out.
Now I have to look up what an intake manifold is, aswell as those tension things you mentioned.
