Default vss attacks

Ok iv had this problem since i installed the b16. The cell light is coming on whenever I am coasting for about 5 seconds or more and then I get the code 17. That's the only time the cel comes on, only under coasting? The car is also acting wierd when under low load. When im driving on level or slightly declining road and I have very little throttle input the engine has no power. If I give it some more throttle it jumps back to life. so i did some SEARCHING and found a thread that said the vss screw can come lose. I tore every thing apart to find out that one of the flat coper wires on the back side of the gauge cluster has what looks like been burned or broken in half over time. Now i never had this problem with the stock motor. could this be the cause of all my problems.

That is the cause of code 17, not the loss of power. Is that what you are asking?

Ok i traced the one that is broken and found out that it goes to the left blinker. so this could also be why when i use the left blinker the temp and the bright light signal come on.

Have you checked the tranny end? Mine used to act up after my clutch replacement and it wasn't all the way in. cel would come on randomly. Also, mine squaked a little bit so I put grease at the cluster end of the cable.

Thats what signals the ecu to flash the code. When I had my code 17, i would have to be decelerating with completely closed throttle otherwise my code 17 would not come on. Just consider it as if you had a constant code 17.

Does your speedo work? If so, you don't have anything to worry about the speedo cable and transmission side. If th speedo works it has something to do with the cluster. Probably that screw that is ******* you over.

very well could be. In my 91 Ef I swapped cluster from a 91 to the 89 (I know, backwards ) and never installed that clear box with the blue plug on the back of the cluster. I get a code 17 when decelerating as well and I alway's thought it was due to that clear box/blue plug.

Yes the speedo works but it does not read below 10mph.

once you find out why that trace burned, if you're like me too cheap to buy a new cluster, lightly scrape the plastic off of the copper on each side of the burn, and solder in a jumper wire over it.

i did this on the keyboard ribbon cable of my laptop when i accidently tore it in half replacing the hard drive.

works fine to me.

but remember, if you fix that without finding out WHY it will just happen again.
