Default Cruising RPM?

I noticed something weird about my new prelude compared to my old one. I had a 94 S, and when i was on the highway goin around 70 the RPMs would be really low in 5th gear, like around 2800 or 3000, and the car would hit 4000 rpms at around 90 mph. in my new vtec, i am on the hi ghway at 70 and the rpms are at 4000 already when im just cruisin. doesnt 4000 seem really high for only going 70 mph?

what car do you have now? or was it an engine/tranny swap? anyways, preludes have pretty short gears, meaning the revs are higher and don't drop down as much when you shift. this is meant to keep you in your power band when you are racing. your revs at 70mph are normal.

I'm pretty sure the F22 (S model) tranny has a lot longer gears than the H22 counterpart.

4k rpm @ 70 mph is about right for a vtec. bring it up to 5k and see how fast youre goin.. mwahaha.

It's actually at 3500 rpm when going 70mph. 3000 at 60mph, 4000 at 80mph, etc.

Yes, the Prelude S has the Accord engine and tranny. That's why it runs at a sig. lower RPM.
