anyone had their crank pulley bolt broken?
went to garage today to get crank pulley bolt broken loose and the guy was talking about how they sometimes break and u have to take the crank to the shop and ****. this ever happened to anyone or happen alot?
I've done pull-ups on the end of a 5 ft breaker bar without breaking the bolt. As well as several minutes with an impact gun. It's still okay
I've never broken one myself nor have I seen any technicians at my work break any. But, I've seen a few cars brought in from less that reputable shops because of broken crankshaft pulley bolts.
On mine the pully itself broke before the bolt did, I heated the thing up and resorted to jumping on it with a 10ft cheater bar (Not kidding) and it never broke. The pully split in half by the rubber but that was about it and I think thats the worse thats ever happened to a pully from taking the bolt out

I've had a few come in the shop with broken crank bolts and all of them came right out with a drill and an easyout.

coo i guess ill just go back tow if i have time and take my chances. me and my friend tried it out couple days ago with his impact only problem is that we had to use an extension so that probably took all the torque away and we couldnt get it loose.

I've never seen one break while taking them off, only when torqueing them back down.
