Default RPM very low when IDLING...

i have a 98 accord, 5 speed.

now, one more thing that im worried about is the idling issue:

the RPM of the car is really low when im idling, lower than 1 and sometimes i dont even feel that the car is on, or i feel that the car will die on me because its so low. i got the battery and alternator checked and everything is ok. the mechanic told me that its a factory set???? anyone had this problem before..can this be fixed or do i have to bring this to honda? any suggestions will help. thanks.

**im not a "bro", im a "sis" so, basic car language only please...

When you guys/gals mean idle feels like its gonna die does it drop then kick back up to the normal idle RPM?

Do you feel any shaking or vibration? It might be a loose engine mount that makes you feel like the car is dying.

first thing to do is to clean out your IAC valve if your gen has one

buy a haynes, look it up, clean it out(takes 10 minutes with a little carb cleaner) and then report back

no what i think it is, is a little to much worrying
my car also runs at idle below 800 and you cant hear it when it is on.
all hondas and acura's are like that
i think its great, i love that i cant hear my car at idle.

try tightening your throttle cable that should fix the idling problems.

my idle is normally a little above 500 RPMs and runs perfectly fine

but if you think that its giving out you might want to check the IAC or tighten the throttle cable like the others suggested

Dont ever tighten your throttle cable to cure any idle or running problem, your throttle position sensor is very important part of stategy for your computer, raising your idle by tightening the throttle cable is really opening the throttle plate and removing the IAC motors ability to control the idle at all. The cable is loose to allow temperature differentials in the metal cable itself, metal expands when hot and shrinks when cold, it must always have some slack in it. FIX the real problem.

do not and i repeat do not tighten the cable to raise the idle,, if a lot of dirt in throttle body it will affect the idle ..remove tube from throttle body clean the throttle plate, remove and clean the mixture screw

ok, so this is what ive done with this RPM issue...

brought it to my mechanic last week, he did tighten something or adjusted the the RPM...it didnt really change anything.

the next day, while i was driving..the car will just die...all lights on...i will re-start and the car will re start no problem. this happened 2-3 times while driving..completely freaked me out. at this time, got another friend to look at the car. the rpm is really low and just shaking like crazy...then we found out that the whole time...(1 week now), ive been driving with 3 cylinder as suppose to 4--apparently one of the spark plugs was burnt out causing the engine to be shaking..rpm going low. so, now this issue of my car is fixed..the RPM is now where its suppose to be and i dont feel any shaking anymore.

now, i have another problem: THE CAR HESITATES!!! i'm going to post this problem and please please...if you guys have any suggestions..please let me know.

i hope u changed the oil/filter after knowing u were running on 3 cyl... that extra gas that wasn't being burned diluted your oil... washed down that cyl wall... get that oil changed ASAP!

did u check the plug wires as well?
