ok guys heres my setup

mugen intake
mugen jdm header
hi flow cat
mugen jdm twin loop exhaust
jdm itr pistons with toda metal head gasket for 11:1 compression
toda titanium retainers
toda valve springs
toda cam gears
toda oil pump gear
toda timing belt
spoon throttle body
spoon flywheel
ats 4.9 final drive and 1.5 way lsd
hondata
spoon spark plug wires
civic n1 crank pulley

most installed and ready to go can't decide between spec A or B car is daily driven 60miles a day. Usally go to 4 autocrosses a month looking for about 9500rpm rev limit so can stay in gear longer with my 4.9 FD. Needs to be reliable what do you guys think? 91 octane gas is a good as i can get. reliability is my main concern willing to give up some power if its reliable.

im worried because i hear timing belts breaking with spec b never heard of it with spec a's so im leaning towards them. plan on ordering cams wednesday so i would appreciate your help.

iv'e searched and read on this topic for the last 2 hours but could not find exactly what im looking for thanks again guys

 

Timing belt should be okay w/ either as long as it is properly tensioned, personally I'd go w/ Bs

 

what can i do to make sure it's properly tensioned should i buy a new tensioner before i install cams?

 

I'd go with B's. Sounds like you've got the supporting mods to compliment them.

As for the tensioner, if the spring looks worn, replace the tensioner. And follow the Helms procedure (involved rotating backwards 3 teeth then re-tensioning). Works every time, never had a problem.

The TODA valvetrain is very stout, you shouldn't have a problem going as high as the B's will take you. You probably wont see peak power come in anywhere past 8500 once you're tuned, so I don't see anything wrong with ~9k.

Actually, on Toda B's I would use a coathanger or a big screwdriver to add a little extra tension to the belt, and inspect the belt tension regularly. I'm going to be putting around with a set of C's myself and this is the tip I have found searching around in the archives. And also change the belt more frequently than OEM service limit, it's cheaper than it snapping and taking the whole engine out. But yeah, you have all the stuff you need to run B's so go for it.

 

.....you could go with A's, B's, or C's.

A's are very mild (I currently use them in my turbo itr).

B's have good midrange and top end.

C's have same midrange as B's and more top end.

I love them all (I'm a toda *****), but what are your intentions for the motor/ car?

If I had his setup I'd be torn between B's and C's.

Most of my decision would be based on application. I think from what I've seen B's will provide what you'd like for Autocross in SM and DD. If it was me, I'd do C's but that is purly based on tracking the car more than any autocross or DD.

From what I understand, the TB's breaking is install error.

And I think reliability with these mods is misunderstood. It's directly related to install, proper tuning and maintenance.

But with both B's and C's you may want to upgrade your header back one day in the near future.

To answer the the original post, this is a comparison graph between a car with I/H/E and my car with the same I/H/E combo but with Toda Bs, you can see where the gains are:

 

the reason i'm not doing thinking of the c's is because i thought you have to run a test pipe to use them and it's a street car and im not willing to risk the fine.

can you use the c's with a high flow cat?

i thought i bought the best stuff in my header back setup, atleast for not wanting it to be loud should i change?

How are those suspensions? I have been thinking gettin them over the Zeal functions..

Besides, APP brake line, good stuff. got a set for myself too, perfect fitment and top notch quality

 

I use B Cam with test pipe, Intake using ARC Air Chamber plus HKS mushroom, 5Zigen header and Fujitsubo Power Getter exhaust.. for volume issue.. none, super deep tone tho. nothing in high pitch at all

with your IHE setup, i dont think it will be any problem with a test pipe as well, sound lv both exhaust are identical deep with simular setup, (mugen got slightly higher pitch)

 

im not worried about the test pipe making it loud. im just not willing to run one because it's a serious fine. and cops in my area check for cats with mirrors all the time.

.....iirc, from speaking to toda usa a few days ago; they said their Ti retainers wouldn't be released for 4-6 weeks.

I decided to go with Rocket Ti retainers in the meantime.....
