Race to the Clouds *PHOTOS*
2005 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb
Yesterday I had the extreme good fortune of spending the day at 13,000 feet watching some incredible cars travel in anger through some of the most glorious scenery in the country.
I left Denver at about 3:30am to get to the top of the mountain before they closed the road for competition. Weather at the top was insane - about 38* and windy and some rain on and off. After scoping out the best photo locations I settled in for the long day.
What I enjoyed most about the day was the accesibility of the cars. You could literally stand feet (or inches) from the road and smell the clutch and race fuel as they kicked up sand and mud in your face. There really is nothing else like it. I plan on making this a yearly pilgrimage and if anybody wants to do the same they are welcome to join me.
Now the photos. Conditions were tricky all day - every 10 minutes they were different. Lighting was difficult - it was a dark cloud cover. I did my best for you guys... Enjoy!
If anybody would like a larger version of any of the gallery images just let me know.

Yeah, sorry about that. The site's host had some electrical issues that knocked out the servers. They are working on getting them back up and back to proper speed - the site is normally very fast.
Thanks for all the compliments guys.

Awesome
Wow, I'd love to see this in person.
I even have a VG friend who lives in Denver to stay with.
Great pics, thanks for sharing. Maybe I'll make my way there with you one year.

Sorry, no more info on the ITR - other than it was super sweet and I was the loudest fan on the mountain when it went by...
