00 civic cd player into a 92 gsr?????
So I put a 00 civic cd player into my 92 gsr and It is not the best fitment it could be one side sticks out further than the other. I think this is due to the bar in the back stopping the cd player from going any further. Any sggestions on how to make this fir perfect? I was wondering if a dash kit would do the trick but this may just be the same fitment as it is now with a dash kit. ???? any help on this topic would be appreciated
The HU you have and the one that your GSR came with are a little diff., and they mounted in diff. ways, with the original one the stock pocket mounted to the HU and the HU was held in place by 2 8mm philips machine screws to the bar at the back you talk about, the 00 Civic HU you have is an "ISO" mount and so is the pocket, [screws through brackets on the side of the HU and pocket] if you go to http://www.installdr.com click on install it yourself and look and see how it's done on both cars, I may give you some ideas, a kit will not help, but the stock pocket for your GSR will

Yes I do mean the pocket, but I mean the pocket from the older Honda/Acuras, not the one from the 00 Civic, ISO is a term we use as installers for HUs that are mounted by screwing brackets to the side of the HU and mounting the brackets in the dash, Toyota is the best example of this, as they are an exact fit, [the screw holes in the sides of most aftermarket HUs will line up with the holes in the brackets of all the Toyota MT brackets] You don't need the sleeve or faceplate trim of the aftermarket HU, and no need for a back support.
The 00 Honda Civic is not a true ISO mount, [the holes do not line up] so when mounting an aftermarket HU in the car you have to use a kit, or do some filing to the holes in the radio mounting brackets so they line up with the holes in the HU.
That is not your problem, your problem is something is keeping the 00 Civic HU from going all the way into the dash of your 92 GSR, I don't know what is stopping it, the stock brace bare should not be the problem though, as the stock HU sits above the bar and the mounting screws go through the bar into a plate that extends out on the bottom of the stock HU, as you can see at http://www.installdr.com, it has to be something else.
Although the bar could be removed, I think you will have to cut it out, be careful if you do, [you should not have to remove it] everything back there is integral, [they do other things] the OEM radio back support brace also braces the sub dash, cutting it out may cause other problems, [loose squeaky dash]
