Default Over heating and overflow filling up

Ok HT peeps help me out with this one. I have a built Z6 motor in my hatch, track only car. The water temp gets over 210 deg if i let it and higher im sure. i tried running no t-stat no luck, so i put a new one back in, i have the fan on and a new cap. There is coolant flowing no problem there, new radiator, new motor at that. When i run it on the track it fills up my over flow tank also. there is no water in my oil and with the cap off no water blows out of the rad. even when i rev the motor up. Any suggestions on what can be going on. IF i let the car just sit there and idle it will get hot also. Even with fan coming on.

Try a leakdown test to see if the headgasket is ok. A coolant pressure test will also help.

Did you just install the built motor? Sounds like your ace engine builder installed the headgasket upside down.

Is there sufficient airflow through the radiator?

is it a full or half width radiator?

if it's a half do you have the cover blank in place on the other side?

its half width, new rad from NAPA. There is nothing in front of it air flow is non restricted. I'm having bad feelings that my gasket is blown between the coolant passages not allowing it to flow back plus dumping all the coolant out of the motor getting it hot. It's looking like i have to bit e the bullet and change it.

In your original post you said the coolant was flowing
Do both the upper and lower hoses get hot?

Since you have a half width...
on the other half where the A/C condensor cooler would go... is it just open to the front of the car.. or is there a big piece of plastic covering the opening?

I have seen new radiators that are clogged from factory!

i have not checked the lower hose to see if it was hot or cold. I know the upper hose gets hot and the motor seems to be real hot.

i'm not saying that couldnt happen anything is possible. It just seems like things are not quit right kinda leading to the headgasket.

An upside down head gasket would cause oil to drip from the gasket.....but I do believe it's a cracked head or bad head gasket.

Pressure test the cooling system.

It should hold the pressure if not you have other problems.

Also you want to block off that open area. This will make sure enough air is getting through the radiator.

I had a problem with a race car where the fan shroud infront of the radiator was not sealed there were gaps where air was escapring AROUND the radiator Once we sealed it up, the car NEVER ran hot again.

By putting an air dam in front of the header so you cant the header through the grill will increase the efficiency of your cooling system

my dad del sol had the over heating problem and I popped the hood. The overflow tanking was warm and the water was bubbling loud in there. What he did was changed out the thermostat and the upper hose. No problem now
