98 slowly dying......
help my car is slowly dying on me. its a 98 accord, 5 speed.
bought the car, 3 yrs ago, after driving it for 100kms engine light went on, since then its been on.
starting problems, sometimes my car will start and sometimes it wont.i just got a new starter, got a tune up too and regularly gets an oil change too.
went to honda to get them to diagnose it..they gave me (4) things as per the engine light, they dont know if it is connected to my starting problem. air filter to be change, cannister vent shut valve and cannister, fuel regulator and fuel filler neck.
plus, my car hesitates while driving..not all the time, it feels like the car is not getting enough gas. now, any of the four things honda recommended related to my car hesitating at all? the car hesitated before and after all the tune up is done.
plus, now the car seems like its going to "die" when im on a stop.
should i just throw this car??
**also, just letting everyone know that im not a "bro", im a "sis" so, basic car language is needed.

Its still worth fixing. I got a '99 with over 200k miles and I love it. If the air filter is way plugged up it will cause the car to be hard to start and run. For a quick test pull the filter and try starting it. But dont drive it with out the filter. The fuel filler neck might be as simple as not putting the gas cap on tight enough, this might also cause the cannister codes. All of this your dealer should have been able to tell you.
Jonah; 4 GOD's sake fix the car!
You're only 1/3 thru the cars usable life, and you want to sell it for this?
To answer your question; YES, all 4 of these items can (and do) directly effect engine drivability due to causing incorrect pressures in both the fuel delivery and the vapor purge systems.
Honda was pretty much on the mark

Would you be able to post the actual trouple codes the car had? They should be somewhere on the paperwork they gave you. A code like P1163. I ask because we've seen some injector troubles with 98-02 4cyls in WA that have been fixed by a simple fuel injector cleaning. If you have them please post them.
The injector problem this last month was Conico Philips' fault. It was a bad batch of gas sent out and it totally gummed up the injectors. My dad got it, CP paided for half of the cleaning.

"Good morning/afternoon Honda service, this is Sean."
That's how I answer the phone at work. I have been seeing injector problems on 98-02 accord 4cyls since months before the CP incident.
And if wherever your dad got his injectors cleaned at made him pay 1/2 the bill he got ripped off. We cleaned a lot of injectors and CP paid the whole bill.

ok..so i've talked to some more ppl about the situation of my car.
got another mechanice to look at my air filter--he said its ok, and does not need to be replaced...
the hesitation issue of the car--we bought a methylane liquid--pore it in the gas tank, he said that it could be some water that is costing the hesitation. since we put the methylane liquid--my car hasnt hesitated yet ...( crossing my finger)
also, since i posted my starter issue--i havent had a problem at all.
now, one more thing that im worried about it the idling issue:
the RPM of the car is really low when im idling, lower than 1 and sometimes i dont even feel that the car is on, or i feel that the car will die on me because its so low. i got the battery and alternator checked and everything is ok. the mechanic told me that its a factory set???? anyone had this problem before..can this be fixed or do i have to bring this to honda?

My 99 had a problem a while ago, rough idle and what not check engine light on...may be your fuel pressure regulator...like a damn idiot I took mine to the dealer and paid a couple hundred dollars for some asshat to put it in..had I known how easy it is to do, I would have done it myself.
Don't 'throw it away'.
