Compression Too high in cyl 3-4 210-230 Help Please!
I just did a starting compression test on my ls vtec motor which is not starting. The first 2 cylenders were ok, #1 was 180 #2 was 190, but 3 and 4 were both over 210. Could this have something to do with timming?
i believe you may have it the other way around. higher numbers are better than lower numbers. i would be more concerned with cylinders 1 and 2. however, these numbers would not prevent your car from starting. that issue lies somewhere else. are you getting spark + fuel?
I know Im getting fuel cause when I pulled each spark plug out I could smell gasoline...But spark I dont think so. Could this be the LS distributor? I think it might be a obd0 one too. Also shouldnt the numbers be around 180-190 anyway? What are the normal numbers?
well, i just did a compression test on my ls/vtec after a fresh rebuild and it was 190 across the board. i was hoping for higher but oh well. a simple way to test for spark is to pull the spark plug wire out, place a screwdriver inside and turn the car over. if you see a small spark, then you're ok.
To do a compresion test you should always open the throttle body wot. And you should also disconect the fuel injectors, that way the excess fuel will not wash down the cylinder you test last. Doing it this way will give you the most acurate readings.
