Default Grinding/rattling after shifter install...

I asked about this on the Integra forum, thought I'd try my luck here. After installing the Skunk shifter, shifting bewtween gears seemed VERY tight. My arms would actully start to get tired if I shifted thru each gear several times.

Well, someone who also installed one was informed that it needed to be broken in and that torquing the two screws that hold the boot and grease too tight may cause this. By comparing the two shifters, stock and the Skunk, the length between the ball joint to the bottom end is slightly longer with the Skunk. Does anyone remember or suggest I try loosening it a bit?

Secondly, I went for a test drive after install and noticed a grinding or rattling sound. Now there couldn't be a misalignment in geometry of the shaft causing grinding of the gears, right? It's actually very faint so I imagine it's just shielding rubbing against the gear shaft. If I take it out of gear and just coast, it goes away...only when the car is in gear and in motion.

Before crawling out from under the car after install, I've asked someone to shift through the gears in case of such incident. I'll check again this weekend, but any suggestions?

Thanks!

For the stiffness of shifting, loosing the bolt you described will fix that. It's kind if a trial and error setup where you want to do the adjustments, then hop in the car and shift it a couple of times to set the resistance to your preference then head back under the car if you need to. I grinding part I am not sure of.

My short shifter would grind due to the shift linkage hitting the exhaust. I think you can trim that extension off. I'm not sure what it does.

Stiffness is in fact that bolt. I lossened it, and the shifting was nice and loose. But then it started rattling because it was too loose. There's a very small window of torque values that loosens the shifting, and keeps it from rattling. Good luck.

Oh, and the rattling came back after a few months....

I have a rattle as well but I think for me it's coming from where the bearing of the shifter bolts to the shaft. When I took the stock shifter off (crx) is had 2 rubber seals/shims that went on each side but when I installed the new shifter the 2 shims wouldn't fit and TA-DA! rattle! So today I think I'm going to either try to force the shims in or something else..

It may even be hitting my exhaust because I have a greddy mx and them resonators are way big! grrr!
