Ok here are some near to final details on the tournament:
-There will be six tracks driven in the tournament, they are: Grand Valley Speedway, Trial Mountain, Deep Forest, Seattle, Midfield, and Laguna Seca
-Depending on how many entrants there are (and how many TV's we can setup) the tournament will be double elimination.
-There will be six designated cars, probably 3 S-class and 3 A-class and all will be available in the arcade (no home garage). We haven't finalized what the cars will be but assume they'll be the best of each class. Right now we're looking at the 787B, Team Oreca Viper, Castrol NSX, Apex MR2, A-Class Corvette, A-Class Porsche, and the A-Class RX-7.
-The track and the car for each race will be determined by roll of die (hence 6 tracks and 6 cars).
We're looking to have 4 PS2's set up. We will be bringing 2 for sure, we could probably use 2 more if some of you want to bring yours. Also, we're looking into the possibility of renting the TV's from Blockbuster, the alternative is for us to bring TV's but this maybe present a space problem and a practicality problem. If any of you can reasonably bring your TV hit me up.
We'll be arriving at Innkeeper North on Friday night around 11 so look us up to get a little pre-tournament action on.
Any suggestions and/or comments are welcome.

The 787B isn't available in arcade mode, I don't think.

I have a link cable if you need it, unless you are going to use USB port and hub and 4 tvs and playstation to do 4 player at the same time.... That would be tight.. Also, I wouldn't recomend tracks where you can run in the grass/dirt and still drive fast... Also, Have a judge or two for the racing, any blantent t-bone or anyone who knocks people on purpose should be d-Qed..

We thought about refereeing the races for just that reason, someone could t-bone someone in desperation and win the race. The rule would have to be if blatant contact is made then there'd be a DQ.
Which tracks of those six are you referring to in terms of driving in the dirt? I think it is inevitable that they'll be some spots on some tracks where you can do this. We tried to pick the tracks that everyone knows well but do not offer a huge benefit to wall riding (which is why SS-5 and SS-11 were excluded).

Trial Mountian is one, at the final chicane, you can take the "Lupe's escape" and cut about 3/4 of a second off the lap.
Laguna is another, where around turn 2, and the final turn before the pit straight, you can cut the corner and pick up some seconds. Punting cones everywhere is fun..
Also the Chicane at Midfield right before the hairpin into the tunnel.
Oh, I forgot Apricot Hill. Huge benefits from getting dirty on that one too...

Seattle has no cutoffs... Grand valley isn't bad, but one hi speed corner comming up the esses, doesn't benefit to much though.. Laguna, well, you can run everywhere almost in the dirt.. Midfield is pretty decent, only the one corner before the tunnel, and It doesn't benefit much..
How about monte carlo (coup de` whatever) as the final?
Answer this, are we going to be doing 4 player if not.. We can do if it you college guys would bring a USB hub, and 4 USB wires.. Look into it.. It would be a lot more fun with 4 cars on track, and the top 2 advance.. But of course, you would need 4 TVs and 4 Playstations.. I can bring the other 2 playstations if need be..

that 787B is nuts, a friend and I were playing with it the other day for the first time...as Tiff Needle said about the McLaren F1, "Wheelspin in first, second, third, this is incredible!"

While playing 4 player would be cool, it does present the issue of starting position. Someone would naturally have to start last and this may be somewhat unfair. Granted, it is not a huge handicap but its a handicap nonetheless. However, having a 4 player game would make it easier to watch for unsportsman-like driving since one person could watch all four drivers in one race.
We'll be discussing the 4-player thing tonight and I will be talking to Cobetto about the tv's tonight as well.

so draw numbers for the different controllers. Hell, if we could draw numbers for starting positions for a real NASA race, you guy can do it for the GT3 contest...

Matt
Matt-Corey and I will be at the Innkeeper in NC and I will have my PS2
Corey and I have also been discussing this topic for a while
we usually rub pretty bad when racing each other, but it is no problem for us, but someone else might feel this type of contact is unfair and complain
what will be qualified as "blatent" contact
purposelly running into the person? running to hard and fast to catch up and not purposely running into the person?
not to be **** about it but some of us our used to different styles of driving, I can deal with contact where someone else might not

I'm sure actions like using the other car as your brakes (hitting them to slow down) and other "desperate measures" that are obviously destructive would be just that, obvious.
By the way, how many damn Innkeepers are there near VIR? Where did most of us stay 12/8-9? That one was the Innkeeper West, correct?

I like what matt suggested about drawing straws... Let do the 4 player if we can, I really think It would be a blast! If need be, I can bring down a 19" TV.. And Like I said, Morgan and I Have a PS2s with GT3.... Let me know...
Drawing straws sounds cool.
How many laps will the races be? 3-laps should be plenty to sort out self-inflicted carnage and poor driving.
