Default JDM ITR tranny code S80, How to determine if it's authentic?? other codes?

Heya, looking into buying a tranny. someone has a 97 JDM Type R tranny and I know it should be stamped with S80, but are there any other codes stamped on there that distinguish it from others. I searched, believe me and looked through like 15 posts but couldn't find the info, just that it's S80. Thanks guys!

yes it should be stamped LSD to the left of the engine code. You can also look through the axle hole to see if it actually is an LSD.

LSD and J4D should be stamped in black ink on the casing

j4d is on both US and JDM trans, its right above the LSD stamp.

J4D denotes the 4.4 final drive in the 96spec tranny

Yes Yes and Yes!

Break Down for you as follows:

USDM = 4.40 all years
JDM = 4.40 only 96&97 spec
JDM = 4.785 only 98+

I promise that will be the last time i write that....or so i say
