I am guessing you do not have the correct tools valve spring compressor ect. since you have to ask is it straight forward. I would have it done buy somebody capable and let it be over with its very easy to kill a motor only takes 1 improperly installed valve keeper to drop a valve

me and my friend put skunk2 valvetrain and cams in his prelude one weekend. it is fairly straight forward, it just takes time doing everything. just make sure you have a service manual and all the tools in hand before you start! good luck.

well, the head is almost completely disassembled (still bolted to block). I can get ahold of a spring compressor......

how long was the job, how did it come out

I would defiantly remove the head then. Its really not that badd a job if you know what your doing. It can be done with the head on the car using air in the cylinder.
Just take your time and do it slow and correct since its your first time I would say with the head off the car a few hours goodluck

you might want to consider changing the timing belt, balance shaft belt, and both the crank and cam seals too, since its convenient

as far as the timing belt goes, with the mods listed in my sig, should I use the OEM parts or use a Greddy Tbelt set?

just take it to a local headshop. Pull the head bring them all the parts and ask for a pressure test, resurface, and check for warpage. Im sure they could also give you a little port job too. All in all should only set you back about 139-149 bucks.

oem timing belt, with manual tensioner, the greddy belt is overrated

Agreed I have seen 3 greddy belts on h series 2 were fraying badd ofter about 3000 miles and the other snapped bent all the stainless valves in the head after only 2100 miles on turbo h22a4. I say honda personally

the work should take a couple days from start to finish. since your engine is already taken apart, you should be able to finish in a day with the right tools and some help. i agree with the timing belt, crank seal, balance shaft seal, balance belt, and cam seals being replaced. just take time and make sure you have a helms!
