Man, that sucks big time. I know exactly where your coming from. My ITR has been my daily driver for the last 3 years. In that time its been hailed on been hit 3 times and not to mention all the little door dings the car already had when I got it. Sometimes I get mad when I look at it and even madder when I know I could have got it fixed if it wasn't for me not having rental car coverage.

In the end I know its not that bad and I know when I find me a beater, which I did last week, I will get the ITR fixed good as new and wont ever have to be park it in a parking lot ever again. (hopefully). What Im trying to say is if you like the car that much like I like mine than just save up for a little while and find you a good reliable beater.

I am really sorry for you loss and damages to the R.

Try your damnedest to get the insurance to cover the items that were in the caR. They most likely wont, but try your hardest to get them to, and dig out some receipts. As for the damages to the R itself, read up on your policy contract before you let them choose a place for the work to be done, or before you choose a place of your own. When my R was damaged, I chose a body-shop on my own which I knew would do the work properly. The insurance ESTIMATE was far less than the cost the repairs would be. The shop went by the estimate, then when they had to do thing properly they had to call an adjuster out and explain WHY its was needed to be done that way. The process took a long time for some minor damages (2 months), but it ended up being fully paid by my insurance company, and without a rate increase.

As far as selling or not: This is your daily driver, correct? I hate to say it, but I would sell if I were you. You are in school, your car is a daily driver so its widely seen and higher risk of theft, and you already had serious issues. I would sell it, and get a lower profile but comparable car. When you are done school, and if you are still in love with the R, then buy one and give it a good home. I dont want to see you sell your R, but I really think it may be the best thing for you at the current moment.

It's simple, fix the damage then hide it in the garage while you pick up a sub $1000 beater and take to the places you should not bring the R.

Rob, I know it may seem simple. However, you must realize he is 18 and in college, which can make it very difficult to do.

to Mythias: I'm pretty confident since i've already dealt with accident damage once I'll be able to get it fixed properly. I have completely full coverage, so in the end I may only have minor problems with the company. I can deal with that.

I'm not currently enrolled in school yet, I'll start college in the fall. Thats why I was at work today for a 10 hour shift, I'm trying to work my *** off to save. Its so weird the way it happened, you guys really have no idea how small and uncity or townlike this place is. The guys who stole my stuff almost 100% had no idea what a type R even is. They tried to get into other cars by the weather strip too, its just unfortunate mine was the one that worked .

To Rob: I've been debating the beater idea, and I'm not all worried about driving something hard to look at, I just want something that wont break down so I can work in the fall. Point well taken

You guys all have different ways of looking at things, I like getting different areas of advice. Keep it up, I appreciate everything.

If you are looking into a beater car, check around for places selling company cars. I got a 98 malibu for $1,000, and the interior is like new. Granted it has high miles, but since it was a company car it went in for service every 3,000 miles. The drivetrain is basically new.. only issues are a tiny bit of rust and some scratches on the trunk.. oh, and a warped rotor (replaced).

Listen to Rob. This is the only way to deal with having a nice car that you care about. Otherwise this will happen over and over again.

Sorry to hear that man! such shitty things.

Im paranouid about leaving my car outside too... im always checkn up on it (i have 2way pager/boomerang) and i ALWAYS park where the end is CLOSEST to the mall/shopping square so its in TOTAL view and i get to park on the edge/end so no other cars park beside me (except one.. but i park right on the line type of deal) tha way i avoid door dings... sometimes i wait 10-15 min and drive around the malls parknig lot lookn for that space!

but once i drive my ITR.. its GODDAMN WORTH IT!!!

I would NOT want an R for college. I had an LS and at first, even that was bad enough (RE: door dings, etc) But it did get to a point when I didn't care anymore. If I were you, I'd get something more college friendly--i.e. beater--that you don't mind having your friends throw up in, door dinged, random dents, etc. While in college, your car should be one of the last things you should have to worry about. Study hard and get something even better than an R ( gasp) after you graduate.

Sorry to hear about your car, though.

I had 2600 dollars in vandalism happen to my car about a month ago. Some jackasses thought my car was a trampoline and just smashed the roof and hood in, it looked horrible. Do your best to pick ur own place to take it too, I took mine to a place around me that deals mostly w/ exotics, porsches, bmws, ferraris and the sort so i know they would do a good job. Stick w/ it and dont give up the R I guarantee you'll regret later on. Just hang in there

First, let me say, that totally sucks, and I really feel your pain!! I've been there.

Don't let it get to you! It was just random punk haters. They stole the amps and CD's so they could have them, or buy drugs. It has nothing to do with the R. Keep the R, go low pro on the music, or copy your collection to MP3's to keep in the car (put a hard drive in the back, or ipod).

These things happen. I've lost about $800 worth of stuff in the last year to punks. Also from a small town. They love to hate people who have anything nicer than them, so they take it out on whoever they can. But it all comes back around. I know that sounds trite, but it's so damn true. I won't post deets, but believe me, it's really true.

Don't get sucked into hate. God will punish them more than you ever can, remember that. Work hard, do right by people, and in the end, it will come back to you. It's a cold hard world, but if you lose your love, you lose what makes life worth living. Don't let them win by giving up!

Yeah, beater is a good idea, but maybe you can't afford that now. So take anti-theft precautions, park under the cameras, and don't worry. Nothing in life is certain, you could be hit by a bus tomorrow.

And... Pay your insurance on time, and blame all the damage on the same incident. Pay your deductible, get it fixed, and move on. You have the best car around! Fuzk them, let them hate

my 00 si got stolen and had i had all the reciepts my stereo would have been paid for
along with my cell phone $400 oakleys and my wallet. I am very paranoid and i dailey drive my R now and keep all reciepts for everything i get. it would cost alot to replace the R with something that would make u as happy as the R does. A beater means two insurance payments too. fix it and drive it and enjoy it. at school like said above is a scarey situation
dont let the thieves decide how u live. just keep your insurance up to date and be carful where u park her.

I am in your postion as well. worked hard for two years and rolled pennies to get the car I love. I cannot afford to get a beater and keep both cars. When i leave int eh fall for school again I will be even more straped for cash. I am considering selling my ITR as well and almost go to tears when i think about it. My ITR was my first real car and I worked on it everyday. Did almost all the mods myself. I learnt so much for her and so much from this site. I think after next years expo if i can make it down there i will be selling for sure.

The "R" is essentially a money pit. You are young in age and at this point in your life its best to try and save up as much money as possible without "incidents" like this one.

Defiantly saying it, but realistically selling the R is your best option.

I would find a beater as others have mentioned and sell the R. You are at a point in your life where you want to enjoy going out without worrying about what the shadows lurk when using your R.

if you own a ITR, dont plan on driving it anywhere public, unless you want to deal with the fucktards.

Unfortunately I think you should sell. At 18 you still have time to pick up another one later. I'd say get a nice '97-'01 Prelude while you are in school and get another R when you have a safe place to keep it.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Bryce &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I know I've seen these topics before but I guess you never really feel whose writing it until you've been in their shoes. Here goes.

Saving a long story, I would never take my car to the beach just because people would mess it up. Friends drop a bomb on me an hour before we leave, I have to drive. During the week:

-I get bumped in the rear while parked, no note, just my job to pay to get it fixed when im back in town. Thank god it was minimal damage.
-Cf hood gets hardcore scratched, then to top it off spit on. It baked into the clearcoat, now needs plenty of sanding and acrylic finish or a straight up new clearcoat with all that combined. Plus the little bit of oxidation .
-Random dents. Enough said.

That all doesnt sound so bad, I get back on Monday, get my windows tinted yesterday(tuesday). Lets rewind about 9 hours:

Go to work. For whatever reason my usual spot near the camera is taken. I must remind you guys that a lot of you live in areas where theft of the automobile is quite more common than break ins and total thefts combined here. Its a complete dead-end BFE town. Within 15 minutes of getting to work, I'm in the freezer(work in a restaurant) getting stuff out. It killed the signal on my pager while i was inside, I come out to a coworker yelling at me to go to my car quick. My pager catches, I run outside, door is wide open.

Crackheads made off with 2 amps, a sub, over 150 cds. Thats just what they got away with. Now lets talk damage. I'd take pictures but honestly I'm not in the mood to even do it, you guys can probably understand the deal. New tint is messed up, weatherstrip busted, drivers seat is ripped, trunk space all cut/scratched up, over 12 dents from tools and them bumping into the car on the doors, roof, paneling, etc. Paints messed up, everything.

To some people you just move on. Insurance 98% probably wont cover any of the cd's and audio, I'll have to fight hard to get them to fix the damage properly. When you lose over $2000 that you absolutely cannot buy back, its a strain. especially when you're 18, and have to go register for classes at college tomorrow. I love the car to death, wouldnt trade it for the world. But the constant stress and attention drawn which concluded in all of this, I dont know how much I have left.

Sell, not to sell? what would you do. I know in the end its ultimately me, I just like feedback and for people to point things out i may not have realized. Sorry for the rant.</TD></TR></TABLE>
