Default Easiest Head Unit for the R?

I am thinking of maybe putting in a new deck in the R. I got the factory one back in, but thinking it would be nice to have an MP3 deck.

My question is, anyone have suggestions on the easiest one to install? I have an odd install situation since my lower pocket was removed and replaced with a police scanner. So I am looking for something that doesn't require a mounting/install kit. I want a head unit that mounts in the same way the factory unit does.

Thanks

Personally, I'd go with an IPOD. The adaptor is around $70-80 and plus, you'll keep the nice matching amber colors.

What adapter are you referring to? How does it hook in? I didn't want to do the whole AM/FM modulator thing, and I want reasonable sound quality.

Does the R OEM head unit have a CD changer port on the back? I ask because I don't see controls on the front to operate a CD changer...

Yeah, it's an adaptor that plugs into the CD changer port in the back. The FM transmitter doo-hicky is crap.

There was a thread about this a few weeks ago--I'll try to find it. I've been meaning to do this, also.

I had no idea you were still around man....anyway...don't think there are any units that mount without a mount kit. I've heard the s2000 head unit will work and has more power and matches the stock lighting, but will not play mp3's.

I would recommmend this http://www.clarion.com/usa/pro....html

great match for color, sounds good and plays mp3. I can post pics for you tonight, or catch me on aim.

Problem withthe Ipod on a stock deck is that there is still o power and if you have factory speakers, forget about it.

That'd be the one.

I'm on stock speakers and I've got no complaints... I do have a sub, though.

Well if you run it through the CD changer port I think it may do the amplification using the stock head unit.

But I would agree, if it is not amplified in any way, then it probably won't sound very good.

P Nut, I am guessing you have some type of amp with your sub.

Yeah. I have a JL 500/1 with a 10" Infinity. Not the greatest sound system, but it does the job for me. Even before the sub, I thought the stock system was decent.

They're all going to be same level of difficulty/ease because they're all installed the same way (generally speaking).

whaaat? that jl amp can drive 2 12 w3's EASILY...and that will knock your head off! get a better sub mang!

i have the 500/1 with two 12 w0's (i dont care about weight, because if im gonna race ill pull it all out in under 10 mins anyway) and that hitsss hardd!

but i hated the stock stereo, and went with an awsome sounding eclipse cd8053 (but it doesnt have an amp, you NEED to run an external 4 channle amp)
