Default Fun Fun Fun.. Building my CRX...

Hello all. I've been lurking a while here and finally decided to post to offer thanks to all the well informed HT posters. I'm just getting started on my project car for the summer. I'm building up an 88 CRX Si for an occasional driver/road race car/auto cross car. I'll try to get some pictures and post them along the way. My CRX currently is a stock 88 Si with around 125,000 miles. I bought the car with it's engine hydro locked so a transplant is in order. I'm probably going with a DOHC ZC with I/H/E and some cams/cam gears, as I'm only wanting around 150-170 hp. I hope to put the car on a moderate diet and loose around 300 pounds, so I should have some interior stuff for sale soon. I'm going with some type full coilover suspension, haven't decided which ones yet, (budget concerns ya know). Car will be fully caged, again haven't decided on cage type/brand at this point. I'm really hoping for over 1.0g lateral in it when I'm finished, possible?

If anyone has any suggestions for low cost mods that will help with suspension, braking, steering or weight reduction please feel free to let me in on them.

Also, if you have any parts laying around that might be CHEAP let me know. Maybe a nice ZC in the garage?

Sorry for the long post, but again thanks to all you HT posters. You guys know your stuff!

Depending on what kind of alloy its made out of. Also a little weight is worth the safty factor IMO. Specially if you road race.

Kannapolis is just north of Charlotte, about 2.5 hours from Asheville. I used to work at Paramount Porsche in Hickory and sold a lot of cars to folks in Asheville. I'm up for a meet if you guys get it worked out. I'll have to drive the 323 GTX for now though. Have you ever been to Deal's Gap, (Tail of the Dragon, Hwy 129)? I make that trip about once a month when I've got the "right" car. Last time I went was in March with the Boxster S. Crazy fun road!

As for the weight of the cage, I'm inclined to take the safety and stiffness it'll offer over the potential weight savings. Thats another reason for the weight reduction, hopefully I can remove enough to get back to about stock with the cage.

And yes, search is my friend!
