Default Losing A lot of horespower when vtec engages.

Hi we took my friends CRX to the dyno.. It had cold air, kamakaze headers ,exhaust, skunk 2 intake manifold, mugen headgasket, Vtec controller on 2nd gen b16. It hit 160 Hp to the wheels( at hookups dyno).. Then we installed Skunk 2 stage 2 camshafts.. put on toda cam gears.. installed a fuel regulator.. blah blah. Timing is perfect, valves etc everything ready to go. Took to Churches to tune it.. He runs it .. it ends up getting a huge dive at vtec.. It sounds like Clickity clack clack.. like something is dying lol.. but churches does some fiddling with vtec controller.. rises vtec up.. vtec sounds 100 times better.. but still a huge dive.. It messes with the gears.. some more with the vtec.. and still a dive.. He says it seems like it wants higher vtec.. We put it to max setting at 7000 vtec.. but still crap... It ended up hitting 160 on churches dynopack.. which is terrible. and still have huge dip on vtec losing like 30 hp.. Before this The cams were in my EG b16 and it ran beautifully with similar mods.. So Im a little confused why this is happeneing to my friends car.. when Cams are not in car It runs strong. Anyone have any Reasons why it runs like crap Even with tuning? Very confused..

a friend of mine actually had the same problem in his b16 then swapped them out for the skunk stage 1's and it ran way better. the stage2's only made good power after the motor was torn apart and ctr pistons were put in. i think that the compression needs to be higher for the amount of lift and duration that the stage 2 has. i've read alot about people saying the same thing, but, if you made good power with them, you might want to double check the cam gears for propper adjustment and the fuel pressure.

there's the answer, not enought compression for the stage 2s to really shine.

also besides being overcammed with the stage 2's. what was your a/f at the vtec drop? seems maybe it needs to be richened up a bit.. also it should be a seemless crossover, not a hump when vtec is actuated. the curve should be smooth and should not "feel it", if you do. some one needs better tuning..

Nah nah.. churches is good tuning.. ask anyone on honda tech.. Obviously its not supposd to hump but it did.. He play with the fuel drastically.. and still the humps is terrible.. the hump got half the size when he tuned it.. but he says it seems that it wants higher vtec.. but you cannot go higher then 7000 on a vtech controller.. And overcammed? i dont understand.. again .. i had it in my 2nd gen b16 with similar mods and it ran fine.. thats what i dont understand.. he has higher compression.. and pulled out more HP stock then my motor did as well.. also we installed another pair of SK2 S2 on my brothers crx b16.. and went to churches.. and there again No problem.. tuned it and ran great..

Is there anyone out there who Has an answer to whats going on here?
Thanks for the replies... But is there anyone out there with a lot of experience that can describe the problem to me?
