leak from half shaft... commen?
That looks like oil, from the oil change you did last night. Take a can of brake cleaner to the whole back side of the block, let it dry overnight, go drive the car and look again and I'll bet itll be gone. When you pull the filter it often goes all over the place and makes it look like theres oil coming from everywhere. If it was the midshaft there's just a bearing in there, and any grease wouldnt look like the stuff you took a picture of.
My bet is its just oil though.

i took the pic while i was under there this morning... before changing the oil.
i always wipe the thing down, so nothing ever has any oil or grease anywhere
2k miles ago, i did my alignment, and noticed it then too, wiped it off, it came back
could MTF leak through there?

Try spraying the heck out of it with brake cleaner like I said, seriously, itll clean that whole area up really nice, and youll be able to tell if theres any leak.
Like I said, that looks like motor oil. Trans fluid (Honda MTF, Redline and many others) is more goldish/yellow and stays that way a lot longer than motor oil, it also smells a lot different from motor oil.
And if you look at the diagrams for the midshaft you'd see that its not the midshaft that'd be leaking that (nor do I believe that itd go bad after only 14K mi) its just a bearing in there.

i dunno. i didnt sniff it. just cleaned it off.
it was slippery
only concern is where it is coming from. everything is spotless, then it just shows up there

honda manual tranny fluid is not like 80/90. it does not smell bad. it is basically motor oil with additives. 80/90 gear lube is the nasty stuf.
regarding the original posters concerns, you have nothing to worry about. that is just oil that dripped down when you removed the filter. clean it off with some brakecleen and you will be good to go.
