Default headunit doesn't turn on and have i a speaker question

I got this pioneer KEH-P5800 headunit that came with the car. It only plays cassettes and it doesn't turn on at all. I checked all my fuses and they are all good and it is hooked up to the back of the headunit. This headunit had never worked when I got the car so I don't know. I also have no speakers at all in my car, somebody told me that maybe the headunit doesn't work because there are no speakers connected. Is this the case? Thx.

No it's not true, the HU will still turn on even if there no speakers hooked up, but if the HU was turned on and any of the speaker wires were touching each other, [pos. (+) to neg. (-)] or the pos. or neg. speaker wire touched ground, it could blow the outputs on the HU, and they, in turn, could take out other things that would keep the HU from turning on. You checked the fuse in the in car fuse box, and any on the 2 power wires on the back of the HU, and the one, [if it has one] under the power/speaker plug going into the HU, [you must unplug it to see the fuse] and did you also check the 7.5A fuse in the engine bay fuse box?
If there is power on both the power wires to the HU,constant and acc. ant the HU has a good ground, and it still will not turn on, then it's your chance to join the rest of us in the 21 century and get a CD player. 94

The fuses checked out to be good, I am going to buy a new HU along with speakers from bestbuy. I can tell this car used to have speakers because I can see cut speaker wires everywhere. lol. Should I get new speaker wires or harness thing for it?

Has the oem radio harness plug been cut off, and have the oem speaker term. been cut off at the ends of the speaker wire, or has aftermarket speaker wire been used, and is it the speaker wire that is "cut"? If its aftermarket wire that is cut, then remove it and use the oem wire, it will work fine, if you are using the HU to power the speakers, even if the oem radio harness plug has been cut off, go to http://www.installdr.com for color codes, and just hard wire the aftermarket harness to the oem harness, [solder and shrink tube is the best way, "butt connectors" work also.
If it's the oem speaker wire that has been cut all over, then it is best the replace the speaker wire. 94
