Default GMR is open!

I have been hitting Azusa canyon road over the last few months and have always come to a closed gate at the GMR fork.
Finally today it was open! I rode cautiously as I have never been on the road. It was pretty decent, some gravel in sections and a partial lane was washed out but in repair. The fork going down to Glendora is still closed so I continued on down to Upland. Overall I would say the road is in good shape but use caution as it is still spring time and there is plenty of loose gravel from the winter rain. Not to mention a few Corvettes hogging the sections where there is no center line.
Ride safe!

Thanks for the update! I can't wait to head back to GMR. Gravel everywhere, idiot cagers crossing over into my side, and giant tarantulas the size of boulders jumping at me. Ahh, memories.

So group ride to GMR?

Doh. That weekend is no good for me. Go ahead and plan it, and if I am back in la-la land in time, I'll show up. Fat Asian guy with a big yellow bike. That'd be me.

Any weekday rides?

I've got no time this week or weekend, but next week should be a lot more free. Hit me up on Monday and we'll meet up for an early Azusa/GMR run.

where is gmr? we were down there this weekend and road up highway 2(angeles forest highway?) and tried to get to cajon pass but the raod was closed because of the road being washed out from land slides. are we talking about the same place? there were a lot of bikes in front of this bar/restaurant in the woods and there was a big *** tree in the parking lot. it looked like a bike hang out. what is that place called?

What you are describing is called 'Angeles Crest Highway'. Thats different than GMR.

Sorry dude! I've been out of town for the weekend. I'll be around Tuesday. What time were you thinking of going up? I'd rather do it at 3pm, but morning's are good too.

Let me know. Meet at the gas station just north of the 210 on Azusa?

RC211V - GMR stands for Glendora Mountain Road. It extends from Glendora through the Angeles Forest (not the same area as the Angeles Forest that contains Angeles Crest Highway). A part of the road branches off so you can head to Mt. Baldy, or over towards Azusa on East Fork Road. Azusa Canyon is easier to ride, whereas GMR has crazy cagers who don't understand sharing the road. There are also HUGE SPIDERS on GMR. But it's a helluva lot of fun.

I find that Azusa/GMR is a much shorter ride than the Crest. There are tighter turns on GMR. I don't see as much police enforcement on Azusa/GMR, as opposed to the Crest these days....

I was at Azusa Canyons Sat morning and it was crappy as hell. Too much people, too crowded, too much sand and gravel on the road and worst of all the gate was close that's where all the interesting twisties begins. Almost have 2 buddies of my go down cuz of gravel in the middle of lane.

Dammit. Guess I better bring a broom...

Hopefully the traffic was only because of the long weekend.

You coming out Khmai?

khami--- this is exactly why i try not to do weekends, too much traffic and others idiots/cagers. weekday mornings and evenings are the way to go if you ar looking for a good ride.
