Default P28 ECU and Knock Sensor Q?

For me to use the Hondata system I need either a P30 (Del Sol Vtec) ECU, or the J&S Classic. I'm much rather use the ECU for simplicity sake and so that I do not have to worry about the J&S being set to low or high, plus all the extra wiring.

Does anyone know if you can have a P28 ECU chipped to have knock control, essentially making it a P30? The reason being is that Del Sol Vtec ECU's are not exactly the most common thing to find.

i seriously doubt it. also, the ECU doesnt do the same thing as a J&S.

no. p28 doesnt support knock control.
But the J&S works leaps and bounds over the factory knock control.

Let me ask a question. How do you set up the J&S to not mis-retard by setting it too sensitive, and how do you set it so that it is not too dull (not retarding upon very light detonation). I've read of many people who claim that the installation of the unit has hurt their performance becuase it retards too often and is picking up noises other than detonation, but retarding anyway. Conversly, there are probably some people who have constant light knock which they cannot hear above their exhaust, etc and they do nothing about it becuase the unit is not set up sensitivly enough and the engine hurts.

If the point of the J&S is to retard timing under knock that is too light for people to hear, then how the hell can you set it up such that it is retarding ONLY the lightest knock, and not retarding on account of other noises due to excessive sensitivity.

the usual method is to drive in a cruising situation and adjust the
sensetivity until it barely shows ping, then back it down a bit.
My method usually involves either high octane gas or severly retarded timing
and then some part to full throttle acceleration. I can almost always hear
pinging regardless of the volume of the exhaust so i can tune out the
engine noise from the J&S.

Okay sgT, a few more questions. What do you mean by "drive in a cruising situation and adjust the sensetivity until it barely shows ping, then back it down a bit"? By this do you mean a fifth gear run at low RPM's and then stepping on it to put a high load on the engine??

Also, I don't understand the part about using the high octane gas or retarded timing. Wouldn't you set the J&S up using the gas you use everyday and stock timing?
