Help w/ cousins new Lude
My cousin is acquiring a 98 Prelude in a few days, or a week or so, anyway the car currently has:
H22 engine
Stage 2 Clutch
Custom dual exhaust
Header (forgot brand)
Eibach lowering springs
Basically he looks to me when it comes to what mods to buy next.. the first time when i wasnt into cars deeply we got him a system and neons and crap like that. This time I wanna make his car fast... but I'm not Honda/Acura talented. So I came to you guys.
So far I've recommended:
V-AFC (or S-AFC if thats what his application will need)
Skunk2 Cam Gears
Pulleys (havent found which one)
CAI
Short Shifter
He has 1000 bucks to work with and I wanna price a list to squeeze the most ponies out of his car.. so post away with knowledge!

Number one rule on H-T is search.
I'll try and help a little though, underdrive pullies free up a little power an intake wil also help, but as for VAFC and cam gears are only good for when he decides to tune it, look into a decent header and maybe a an intake mani and cams, and i'm not real sure about that "custom dual exhaust."
But you will definetly find more if you search.
I hope i saved you a little humiliation.

with a thousand dollar budget i would:
a) find out what header he has. chances are it's a DC or a DC copy. search for "collector mod" and modify the collector.
b) get rid of the dual exhaust. and get new 2.5" piping and save one of the mufflers. that's about $300 spent.
c) get a VAFC 2 for $250
d) ebay intake w/ K&N filter on a stick setup $50
e) dynotune the bitch! $150
some money left over to get stuff like shocks.
$1000 isn't much money to make a prelude fast.
might be cheaper to look into nitrous, too.

I think hes sticking with the duals, he is a BIG ricer so duals and HUUUGE mufflers are unfortunately a definite for him. I was also told to look into some lightened flywheel options for his car... I think underdrive pulleys, cams, flywheel, and intake is worthwhile on a H22 engine.. that should put him over 200 hp and be pleasing enough for him. Thanks for all the help on this thread btw, I expected to get flamed for not searching but I was out the door to work and posted it to see if i could get some help and sure enough I did..

you definately need to do a search. those mods won't even come close to 200whp.
with only a 1000 budget... you'll be happy with 15hp over stock.

- 2,157 cc 2.2 liters 4 in-line front transverse engine with 87 mm bore, 90.7 mm stroke, 10 compression ratio, light alloy block, light alloy head, double overhead cam, variable valve timing/camshaft and four valves per cylinder
- Premium unleaded fuel
- Fuel economy EPA highway (l/100km): 8.7
- Multi-point injection fuel system
- 60 liter fuel tank
- Power: 146 kW , 195 HP @ 7,000 rpm; 156 ft lb , 212 Nm @ 5,250 rpm
So it really won't take that much to get your Prelude - I mean "your cousin's Prelude" above 200hp.
oh....I just saw the 200whp --> that will take a little more but should be reachable just go light on the rice

make it look nice, I'd prefer the OEM lip, it's cleaner and Urethane.
Although if he's a rice guy maybe I/H/E, MSD, the tornado, magnacor 10mm wires, Vtec contoller set to 3500 rpm and then his Butt Dyno will make him think he's a 12 sec car.......haha J/K
Hey just buy a cheap intake and get wheels or the lip kit.

the flywheel costs 200 bucks, but you gotta pay another 300 for the install.
it's a pretty useless mod for power purposes anyway.
hondata + ecu + tuning comes out to $700 bucks. not much left over for actual mods.
while i wouldn't use a VAFC if i could help it, i'm also not on a $1000 budget.
btw, all preludes are 190 bhp. forget what the brochures said.

Has anyone tried the GReddy EVO exhaust? I bought mine in January - it's a damn good exhaust. Low tone - not high pitched ricey sound.....I say you should have HIM check it out....I don't know how it compares to the World Sport exhaust...or whatever...
Does the prelude come with the H22 engine? Because my cousin kept stressing the H22 swap as the big point of the car.. maybe he ment H22A swap?
and we're def not lookin to get 200 whp N/A, just 200 hp

depends on the year. all 97-01 preludes have an h22. 92-96 preludes have either a F22, an h23, or an h22. the h22 is the only one with VTEC, the h23 makes 160 bhp.
200 bhp on an h22 is pretty easy. do the collector mod, ditch the exhaust, get a real one, get a CAI and a VAFC and if you get it tuned right it should be about 170-175 whp which is about 200-206 bhp.

I'll have to ask him exactly what engine is in it...
I'm searching short shifters now on eBay, is this one just an adapter?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...=WDVW
or should I lean towards recommending this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...=WDVW
and his Lude is a 98, but he kept saying engine swap to me in person but he was only saying H22, no A.. so I will have to ask him

h22a's are the JDM h22, h22a4's are the USDM version. they're the same engine more or less. there's absolutely no reason to swap a JDM h22 into a 5th gen prelude unless the engine is fubar. even the 220 bhp type-s is a waste of money.
there aren't too many 5th gen true short shifters. i believe there's the pspec and the pure racing. everything else is an adapter.

if it is a 98 dont bother asking him because it came with an h-series motor.
i supose he could of swapped in a jdm h22a but that is very unlikely unless the
original owner blew up the original motor.
either way its not going to effect what "mods" you buy for it.
dont buy or recommend either of those shift adapters
it cost more ... but this is the one you want ... do a search here on HT and most everyone will agree http://www.forbiddenmotorsport...elude

the collector on DC and OEM headers is way too restrictive. the collector mod is replacing the 1.8" collector on these headers with a 2.5" or a 2.25" collector (which is basically just a spool piece welded in place of the collector which frees up exhaust flow.
