What is the best engine swap for an 88 Civic?
I have an 88 civic. It's a parked car with a 1.5l b-series engine. I've been told that a 3.8l VTEC Pilot engine is the biggest engine I could put in it. It would have to be fabricated when installed. This is all information that someone has told me. I want my engine to have 500 hp if not more. I don't know much about engines. What I want to know is what engine would I have to put in my car that would give me the power of a skyline in a civic? Would I have to swap the bottom or top of a Pilot engine, or is there another engine I could replace mine with?
i want to know if a 3.8l vtec would win in a street race. is a 3.8l engine the biggest engine i can put in my car? i've beed told that the bigger the engine, the more hp you can get out of it. and is the k20 a 3.8l engine?
i want to build the engine myself though. i've never built an engine before, so i want to learn how. i want to start with the block and to whatever modifications for more hp while the block is still on the floor.

Ugh, sorry. I can't answer anymore questions.

no, i havent heard of a 3.8l v-tec. you may be thinking of a v6 from an accord or tl er somthing, i may be wrong, but not good for an 88 crx, way too heavy. if you want to start building motors, i suggest starting small (cheap) like a zc. its a fast, light motor that would be an easy swap. and theres no vtec to worry about, and you can always boost it later.

No it is a 2.0 With Honda engines it is easy to tell how big an engine is, because after the engine's family letter (like 'K') the numbers after that show you its displacement.
For example:
B16 (B family, 1.6 liter)
B20 (B family, 2.0 liter)
K20 (K family, 2.0 liter)
K24 (K family, 2.4 liter)
H22 (H family, 2.2 liter)
D16 (D family, 1.6 liter)
C32 (C family, 3.2 liter)
blah blah you get the point. I wouldn't try to put that Pilot engine in your car, especially if you are new to this stuff. Maybe go for a GSR or K20 swap.

The Pilot shares the 3.5 liter motor with the Odyssey and the Ridgeline. It is far from a logical swap for an "EF" bodystyle vehicle. Tinker with the motor you have or a common swap until you learn enough about your car to do more difficult work.
I might be wrong, but I believe the Pilot only comes in a 3.5l engine. Whether you can fit this engine and use it comes down to two things: time and money. Hope you have a lot of both because with the cost of engine and fabrication you could buy yourself a car that will probably be just as fast and come with a warranty.
Your posts indicate that you have little to no knowledge of engine building. You've set your goal amazingly high for a beginner. I'd advise that you spend a few days to weeks reading posts and see if you can pick up a few things.
Option 2 is to break out your checkbook and just save yourself the time and headache by paying someone to create a 500hp civic.

You sure that is what you really want? What do you know about "blowers"? How much car knowledge do you actually have? You want a 500hp Honda motor now that you can put a "blower" on later.....come on. Give me a break.

i REALLY HOPE THIS IS A JOKE....
You honestly know absolutely nothing man.....dont bother doing research....just get a credit card and goto a speed shop..please dont touch your car with any tool or anything...sell your crx to me and buy a mustang...throw a blower on that

There is no B15 engine. your current engine is a early d15a. the most common swaps are with a integra B series engine, a H22, a K20, or a spoon engine. 500 horses is alot of power and you really should just set a lower goal. Do some more research and good luck.

Spoon is a company, not a motor. H22 and K20 swaps aren't that common among "EF" chassis either. Since he is a newb, his best bet would probably be to upgrade to another D series motor. It's very common, easy to do and will teach him some things about his car.
