Default need help asap pleeease

hey i have a 95 accord lx 4cyl

well my engine is pretty much shot i had it looked at yesterday and umm i have had a blown head gasket for a while and one of my rods is bent... my car was overheating a lot, wouldn't start sometimes, etc... the mechanic said that pretty much i should get another engine because there's water in the oil and pistons. also, he said changing the gasket won't be much help cos the compression would go back to normal and that bent rod would be a major problem causing my engine to give out (again)

i have 2 questions:

would it be worth it to get a new head gasket and fix the bent rod?

or get a new engine, and if so... whats the newest engine (year wise) i could get from a junkyard for a 95 lx 4 cyl? i heard i could get a 1999 engine and would still bolt on perfectly...

thanks so much in advance

Damn that sucks. How long were you driving with your engine overheating lol sounds pretty serious. I would just stick with a 95 motor maybe get an EX and upgrade from your blown LX. If you drop a later model engine 96 up you will need to do OBD 2 Conversion. I think you can do OBD 2 - OBD 1 <not sure> on the accord motor but the wiring is gonna be a hassle. Id just stay with a 95 motor and save some money. How much is your mechanic charging you total for the head gasket, and bent rod?

he said $350 for the head gasket.... im guessing the rod would be 100-150 more since the head would be off already if he does the gasket. gettin a 95 motor would be about 350-400 bucks plus the 400 he said it would cost me to install... so it's like $500 to fix the crappy thing or $800 for a better engine, lower miles. i'm at 127k

i put a 94 EX into my 91 EX, man that motor kicks butt. i know there is better, but not for the money. and now im bout to boost it. some one said that an "auto tranny" engine is a different performance. like not as good. i dont see how it would make a difference, so i looked at my recipt, and it was a 5spd. motor, ECU, distributer, and other various peices, cost around $472. and change.
