Default 4-speed in a DX?

Hey all,

I'm looking at getting a 91 civic hatch, and the guy keeps telling me it's a DX. I think it might be an HF, though. It has the valve cover that says honda 16-valve on it and a 4-speed manual trans. I read on another post here that with the DX package came a 5-speed manual.

I just got the VIN codes from this forum yesterday and I'm going to check that and see, but do any of you know for sure if a DX civic ever came with a 4-speed? I read on another post here that with the DX package came a 5-speed manual.

thanks,
Patrick

The 88-91 hatches came in three forms, standard w/ a 4spd & a 70 hp d15b1, dx w/a 5 spd and a 92hp d15b2 and Si(89-91 only). hth

OK, so it's definitely the weak-*** 70hp car if it has a 4-spd, correct?

Thanks,
Patrick

ok, so would it be worth my time?

The car's almost bone stock, I'm going to hook it up a bit and sell it for a profit to some kid. I was thinking CAI, some sort of exhaust, general detailing/cleaning up.

It has like 190k on the clock and runs/sounds fine aside from a dime sized hole in the muffler, which I'd be switching out anyway. No strange pings, knocks, etc.

I loved mine, it is not a supercar but it can handle great with suspension work, and a engine swap isnt too hard, I put a D15B VTEC in mine and sold it when I got to the wiring. My friend has one right now with the D15B1 and just a CAI and a 2 1/2 in exhaust no cat or anything it is a fun little car.

That's what had me so confused in the first place. Anyone know what's up with the 16v motor but 4spd tranny?

The 8 valve motors only came in the CRX HF. No hatch ever had an 8 valve even though it was a four speed.

no the std came with a motor almost exactly like the dx.

the only differences are the camshaft, exhaust, some changes on the intake such as a spacer, restrictor plates for more gas milege, ecu, and of course the transmission. oh, and i believe later in production the d15b1 was relabeled a b2, since they're basically the same motor anyway, with different bolt ons.

I had a d15b1 with a b2 head and intake manifold, 4-1 header, custom exhaust, intake, it was a fun little car.
