Are 17" wheels too big for the Hype-R
In a daily driven situation(?), hell no. Would I autocross them(?), hell no.
A good friend of mine acquired a '01 PY with 17" JDM CTR wheels and they look incredible. There's no rubbing of any sort.
His other wheels are stock gm's with Avon R Comp's, thus all show and go.

No need for 17's unless you have to clear :edit: 'some' big brakes. Nice looking, but a lot heavier than is desirable for a car with little torque. Tires are much more expensive too. But hey, if you're just after looks then go for it, it's your money. Personally I'd stick with 15's or 16's.
<---- Ill who has 15x7 CE28's - forged, ultralight, cheap tires with many choices including R compounds
but will be picking up a set of 16x7's 'cause he's becoming a wheel *****
BTW - Stock USDM 15" ITR wheels clear Spoon brakes, and 15" CE28's do too
Most 16's will clear Willwood and other brakes if offest is +43-45.

A decent looking 17' wheel will look fabulous on an R in my humble opinion. If you only use her for daily duties or just simply have a smaller lighter set of wheels for your autox/road/drag duties, I say go for it and don't think twice.
Just perform a search, pictures are worth a million words.
Good luck.

I bought 17's over a year ago and I ended up putting my stockers back on. They were just too heavy. Handling was great due to the 7.5 width but the rotational mass simulated 'steam rollers'.
I am looking for new rims but it's a toss up.
If you have a fat wallet get some forged 17's. There are light ones out there. 15's won't clear most big brake set-ups but you can get cheapo's like Rota and they're still fairly light weight. 16's have a shitty tire tire selection; so I have heard.
MooFX is right; if you have enough power, who gives a ****. He rolls on 17's and his car is the bomb-diggity. Supa quick and handles like it's on rails. Thanx for the ride on Saturday Moo
. My car now feels like a wet noodle

They are Knockoffs. The adapters come in various lug paterns.
I put several different sets of 19" and 20" wheels on 2 different ITRs. A 98 and a 01.
