Engine question
What are the differences between the JDM H22A Type S engine and the H22A/1 JDM/USDM. Which would you go with, with my car? Im pretty sure the Type S is a stronger engine, no?
There's a huge difference between the H22a and the H22a7, the H22a7 (aka H22 Type-S) has 220hp & 153lb torque vs. the H22a which has 200hp & 161 lb-ft torque. The price difference between the two is almost double, a 92-96 H22 is usually around $2200 for the full swap, not sure about the LSD and the Type-S is about $3900-4200 in most cases. So basically you're paying for 20HP more, an ewer engine, and higher compression. You also lose almost 10lb-tq. with Type-S. It's really all about preference, it would make sense if you were going to stay NA with the Type-S since boosting wouldn't be logical due to the high compression, however the H22a would be a better candidate for boosting although it has a considerably higher compression also. I believe that the H22 has 10.6:1 and the Type-S has 11.0:1. I'd also look at the F20B which is the engine found in the Accord SiR in Europe. You have a lot of choices, I'm still trying to consider what I'm going to do with my car also...I might go through the hassle of getting the Type-S or F20B..
