When i changed my oil today, 1st change since the swap, no oil poured out of the filter. I have changed oil b4, usually there is oil still in the filter when the engine is off, is that correct?? It just seems a little wierd it was dry. Any ideas???

Oh yeah its a b16sir2

if it is completly dry then you have a problem, are you sure that you didn't just pull the filter off different leaving the oil in there?

It seemed like it was, n no i dont have an oil pressure guage. The car pulls nice tho i figured if there was a problem it wouldnt run like it does. Ill take a look tomorrow to see if it was completely dry.

Doesnt overheat, smoke, ect...

You probably just had the car turned off for a while before you did it, and maybe have a weird filter. I can guarantee it would run like crap if your oil wasn't being pumped.

Did u read the 1st post, there was oil in the engine, jus not in the filter. I figure the only way there would be a problem is if the pump want working, but i also dont think it would run fine w/ the AC on n **** in the summer

it'll be summer 3 hours from now... [/breakin *****]

but on a serious note... start the motor, remove the oil cap, and see if oil is splattering up under the valve cover. if you're suspicious of it, you can remove the valve cover and start the motor to check. that'll tell you for sure if your oil pump is pumping.

Has anyone ever heard a Honda engine run without an operational oil pump? I mean, my first thought is that you'd hear clicking and grinding and it would sound like you dumped a silverware tray into your crankcase, but maybe it would take a while for the engine to destroy itself?

What Aphelion said does have some truth to it, not sure of you who all saw the video on here, thes guys took an older civic, and literally poured water into the motor, and drove it really hard, literally at red line, and the car finally died. And it started back up no problem.

Seriously, dont have the time to search for the video now, but someone post something up about it and post it back up. Pretty cool to see the cars we drive are built this tough.

Mine did that once, I guess it was stuck in bypass, a lame filter. Just put hondas on there.

how long was your car off before you took off the filter? maybe it ran down the pick up on it's own

Exactly right . A filter with a defect will bypass oil back into the circulation system without filtering any of it. It's not going to blow up your torqueless wonder, but it's not helping out your bearings either .

It would sound like metal grinding in the base of the engine, more in the 2k - 3k region. And you probably wouldn't reach your cutoff either. I know , my engine died this week cause the oil pump died on me.

id say bout 15 min, i took off the oil pan plug, let it drain for a little while... i think i had a beer n a newp while i was waiting. So it was def a few min, im goin to go out now n turn it on without the cap on n see if i see oil spurting around.

lol if your pump wasnt pumping your oil your engine would be toast. period.

you got a bum filter, the drainback valve (or whatever its called that bypasses the filtering elements when the filter is clogged) was stuck open. you pretty much were running unfiltered oil throughout the engine.
