How much does it cost?

What are your future plans with the engine?

Hondata would be better choice for turbo. VAFC 2 is ok for NA.

True, but why buy twice? No need to spend extra money. If you're serious about boosting go with a real engine management

well, first of all, it's vtec, not v-tec...the vtec afc is what is called a piggy back engine management system...in other words, it reads the signals from the sensors, modifies the signal, and tricks your ecu to run the motor however you have set it up...

i have an original vafc with my h22 setup...by lowering the vtec engagement point, i did make a smoother power band, eliminating the "kick" that vtec gave when it engaged at its stock position...you can also play with the air/fuel ratios, leaning out the motor a little bit to make a little extra power...there are some other neat little displays that read out anything from vtec engagement, to rpm's, to vaccuum pressure...

it's reall up to you though...if you plan on getting a hondata system in the near future, there is no reason to invest in the apexi unit...

had a vafc and replaced it with the hondata s2b / chipped p28...

when your boosting... the vafc setup gets it done, but the tuned hondata setup gets it done right imo.

I wanted to run more boost, have proper timing control, 2 step, etc... and the piggyback just could not cut the bacon anymore.

shop around the classifieds or ebay for a used vafc... I just sold one that was like new for roughly 150.

Dont buy it. Use the money towards a Hondata, or a true stand alone unit i.e AEM EMS.

why you want to lower it? it's not like you are gaining power from it?
if you can get alot of torque/hp if you lower your vtec crossover point, why honda decide to put it above 5k? they could just lower it to 1500rpm and make 200hp per liter, why? because it just doesn't work that way, think of this, how many oil PSI are you getting at 1500rpm, got my point.

people buy vafc to tune and smooth out power curve, it rarely add any horsepower, maybe 5 at the most with all the bolt on you can find.

go get a "VTEC CONTROLER". you can set your VTEC for just about any RPM that you want.
