I have a 1999 Civic with 120,000 miles on it. About 3 weeks ago I put in a new AC compressor because the old one went out. Ever since I put it in, I have been getting lower gas mileage than usual. This is when I am driving with my AC and I have been getting around 24 to 26 mph. Everything is fine when I drive with no AC because my gas milegae doesn't decrease. Before I put in this compressor I was getting like 27 to 30 mph in the city. Can someone help me? Is this usual for a few weeks after you put in a new AC compressor and then will it go back to normal?

I was getting better gas mileage when my old compressor was working correctly.

 

Well when you use the A/C, your gas mileage should decrease.

Are you sure it decreased more since then? Maybe since the compressor is new, it's actually working properly. The old one might not of been working at 100%, so your gas mileage might of been higher.

You never know.
